We’re partnering with a long-established, Australia based business that’s setting up its Azure DevOps capability from scratch. They need an experienced engineer to design and build a secure foundation, with security baked in from day one rather than bolted on later.
It’s a focused 4 week engagement, so we’re looking for someone who’s done this before, can make sound architectural calls quickly and leave behind something the internal team can confidently run with.
What you’ll be doing
Designing and standing up the Azure DevOps organisation, projects, repos and branching strategy
Building CI/CD pipelines in YAML with reusable templates and sensible release gates
Establishing Infrastructure as Code patterns for repeatable, secure deployments
Setting up identity and access from the start: Entra ID, RBAC, service connections and least privilege
Implementing secrets management, security scanning and policy guardrails in the pipeline
Configuring baseline security monitoring and alerting across the Azure workplace
Documenting the platform and handing over cleanly so the team can own it
What you’ll bring
Proven experience building Azure DevOps environments from the ground up, not just maintaining them
Robust SecOps background in Azure, including Defender for Cloud, Sentinel, Key Vault and Azure Policy
Hands-on Infrastructure as Code skills (Bicep, ARM or Terraform)
Experience integrating security tooling into pipelines (SAST, dependency scanning, secret detection)
The confidence to make design decisions and explain the reasoning to a non-specialist audience
A track record of delivering in short, outcome-focused contracts
Why this one?
Greenfield work is rare. There’s no legacy to untangle and no technical debt to inherit, just a clean slate and a team that wants it done properly. You’ll set the standards they build on for years to come.
