The TeamThe Northern Cancer Service provides comprehensive cancer care to the population of Northern/North West Tasmania (250,000 people).
Treatment centres are located at the WP Holman Clinic, Launceston General Hospital, North West Regional Cancer Centre, Burnie, and the Mersey Community Hospital.The haematology service at the Launceston General provides an integrated, multi-disciplinary approach to diagnosis and treatment.
Using state of the art technology, the service combines the disciplines of medical and radiation oncology, as well as haematology and palliative care on one site.
The range of conditions managed is diverse and includes both malignant and benign haematology in inpatients and outpatients.
Allogeneic stem cell transplants are not performed in Tasmania but after-care from d+100 onward is usually transferred from Melbourne to the local Tasmanian haematologists.
Apheresis and stem cell collection are performed on-site.The RoleA fixed term 12-month Haematology Clinical Registrar position is available at the Launceston General Hospital, Launceston, Tasmania, from 31 January ****.
This position is supported by a team of 5.4 FTE consultant haematologists, 1 BPT ward registrar, 3 ward JMOs and a Laboratory Advanced Trainee.Work involves a mix of inpatient and outpatient care in a multidisciplinary setting.
Duties include:Providing a consultative haematology service in conjunction with the on-call Haematologist for the non-Haematology inpatients at LGH, as well as providing phone advice for GPs and rural hospitals.Regular outpatient clinics under supervision of Consultant HaematologistsAssisting with assessment and management of ambulatory haematology patients requiring treatment within the WP Holman Clinic outpatient facility, Launceston General Hospital.Advising, mentoring and overseeing the work of junior medical staff assigned to the care of inpatient haematology patients at the Launceston General Hospital when needed, including participation in the on-call roster with Consultant Support.Participation in local research projects and clinical trialsYou will needGain a high-quality clinical, educational and professional development experience within the Northern Cancer Service, supported by access to comprehensive diagnostic and imaging services including CT, MRI and PET.Contribute to teaching and learning opportunities at the Launceston General Hospital, a major training site for the University of Tasmania Clinical School,
