Aroona Luxury Boat Charters is offering an exciting opportunity for a qualified
Master 5 / MED 3
to join our dynamic team operating out of
Yorkey's Knob Marina
, Cairns. We specialise in the largest range of bespoke private charters on the
northern Great Barrier Reef
, aboard our 70ft Outer Reef Yacht,Aroona—a vessel renowned for variety, luxury, comfort, and adventure.

Aroonacaters to a variety of expeditions, including:

Private charters for small groups
n
Film/documentary productions
n
Marine research
n
Guided fishing, diving, kitesurfing, and spearfishing
n
Minke whale encounters
n
Marine surveys and mother shipping
n
Exploration of islands, rivers, and remote coastlines
n
About the Role n
Position Type:
Full time (Permanent Part-Time)
Sea Days:
Approx ~100 to 120 days/year + 80 to 100 maintenance days
Location:
Cairns Region (must be based locally)
Salary:
$110,000–$150,000 + Superannuation and Tips.
Leave:
4 weeks annual leave + additional leave based on charter days.
Key Responsibilities n
n
Safely operate and navigate the vessel in remote regions of the Great Barrier Reef and Coastal systems.
n
Lead a small, dedicated crew and maintain a team-oriented culture
n




Liaise with the business manager to plan and create exceptional custom charters for all our guests in a safe and enjoyable environment
n
Perform preventative and scheduled maintenance onAroonaand her tenders
n
Manage vessel systems (air-conditioning, desalination, electrical: 240V/12V/24V, diesel inboard and outboard motors)
n
Ensure compliance with GBRMPA, QPWS, AMSA, and all regulatory requirements
n
Work closely with the Operations Manager and shore-based engineers
n
Assist in business development, including managing budgets and operational planning
n
Requirements n
n
Australian or New Zealand citizenship
n
AMSA-issued Master 5 and MED 3 qualifications as a minimum
n
Current First Aid, CPR and O2
n
Excellent mechanical skills
n
Professional presentation
n
Experience in a similar role
n
Ability to live and work in close quarters at sea
n
Experience in remote area operations
n
Strong leadership, technical, and interpersonal skills
n
High level of attention to detail
n
Desirable (but not essential) n
n
Dive Master or Dive Instructor
n
Prior experience in the Ribbon Reefs and northern Great Barrier Reef region
n
Prior charter fishing experience
n
n
