Job Description
Location: Highett and surrounding suburbs n
nEmployment: Casual n
nPay Rate: $37–$45 per hour n
nShifts: Daytime, afternoon, evening and weekend shifts available n

nYAY Today is looking for an experienced, engaging and genuinely caring Support Worker to support a young participant based in Highett. n
nThis is an opportunity for someone who enjoys building genuine relationships, sharing interests and making everyday activities fun and meaningful. n
nWe are looking for someone who is patient, creative, energetic, reliable and genuinely interested in getting to know the person they support. n
nThe right person will understand that great support isn't about simply completing tasks or supervising — it's about building trust, encouraging independence and helping someone feel confident, connected and supported. n
nAbout the role n
nYou will provide one-to-one support both at home and in the community, helping the participant: n
nBuild confidence and independence n
nParticipate in activities that reflect their interests n
nDevelop social and community connections n
nExplore new activities and experiences n
nMaintain routines and healthy daily habits n
nDevelop emotional regulation and coping strategies n
nMake choices and have greater control over their day n
nEngage in meaningful and enjoyable activities n
nThe ideal Support Worker n
nWe are looking for someone who can genuinely join in rather than simply observe. n
nYou will ideally: n
nHave a genuine interest in gaming and technology,



particularly Nintendo Switch and YouTube n
nEnjoy talking about space, astronomy, science and documentaries n
nBe happy to play games, explore interests and participate alongside the participant n
nEnjoy drawing, LEGO, Play-Doh, arts and crafts, board games and creative activities n
nHave a good sense of humour and enjoy a bit of fun n
nBe energetic and willing to encourage gentle community participation n
nEnjoy activities such as mini golf, movies, parks and libraries n
nBe curious and willing to learn about new and sometimes very specific interests n
nBe accepting and respectful of individuality and self-expression n
nBe able to turn everyday activities into opportunities for connection and learning n
nYou don't need to be an expert gamer, scientist or astronomer. What matters most is your willingness to get involved, be curious and share the person's interests. n
nYour approach matters n
nThe participant responds best to support workers who are: n
nCalm, patient and emotionally regulated n
nWarm, respectful and approachable n
nConsistent and reliable n
nComfortable using a low-demand approach n
nAble to give the person time to process information and respond n
nFlexible when plans change n




nAble to use interests and motivation to encourage engagement n
nComfortable supporting transitions and changes in routine n
nFocused on building rapport before placing demands n
nAble to recognise that behaviour is a form of communication n
nEncouraging of independence and decision-making n
nYou will also need to be confident working within Positive Behaviour Support strategies, particularly around digital devices and highly preferred activities. The focus is on proactive engagement, structure, positive strategies and relationship-based support, rather than confrontation. n
nExperience and skills n
nTo be successful in this role, you will have: n
nMinimum 2 years' experience working as an NDIS Support Worker n
nPrevious SIL experience n
nExperience supporting people with complex support needs n
nUnderstanding of Autism Spectrum Disorder and psychosocial disability n
nExperience implementing Positive Behaviour Support strategies n
nStrong communication and interpersonal skills n
nGood documentation and reporting skills n
nA calm and qualified approach n
nThe ability to work independently while contributing positively to a broader support team n
nExperience with mental health, emotional regulation, anxiety support and supporting people with complex behaviours will be highly regarded. n

nWorking with Children Check n
nCurrent Australian Driver Licence n
nReliable and comprehensively insured vehicle n
nCurrent First Aid and CPR Certificate n
