About the International Eucharistic Congress (Eucharist28)
Eucharist28 is a global event of the Catholic Church centred on the Eucharist.
Sydney will host the Congress in ****, bringing together tens of thousands of people from around the world and hundreds of thousands of Australians.
The **** Congress marks the centenary of Australia's first International Eucharistic Congress, held in Sydney in ****.
Last hosted in Australia in ****, it will return Sydney to the centre of the global Catholic Church and seek to renew Christian life and participation in the Church's mission.
As coordinator of the Congress, the Catholic Archdiocese of Sydney is seeking an experienced Catholic formation professional to help dioceses, parishes, schools and other communities engage in the spiritual journey to Eucharist28.
About the Role
The Catechesis and Engagement Lead helps parishes, schools, Catholic groups and movements, and dioceses prepare for and participate meaningfully in Eucharist28, combining community engagement with the delivery of catechetical and formation resources.
Reporting to the Director, Formation & Programming, you will build relationships with Church leaders and local communities, understand their needs, and support them to bring preparatory initiatives to life and plan their participation in Congress week.
You will maintain regular communication, facilitate consultation and connect communities with relevant resources, information and practical support.
Working closely with the Sydney Centre for Evangelisation, Archdiocesan teams and national Church stakeholders, you will coordinate and curate resources that are faithful to Church teaching,
pastorally responsive and accessible.
You will develop participation pathways, coordinate working groups, manage resource schedules and budgets, and support translation and cultural adaptation.
Interstate and regional travel is required to meet with dioceses, Catholic Education Offices, schools, parishes, Catholic groups and movements, and other stakeholders.
This is a full-time, fixed-term position until 27 October ****, based at Polding Place, 75 Elizabeth Street, Sydney.
About You
You are an experienced Catholic formation professional with sound catechetical knowledge and a pastoral approach.
You can build trusted relationships, coordinate work across Church networks and develop resources that are useful to communities with different needs and backgrounds.
Specifically, as the ideal candidate for this role, you will meet the following key requirements:
Demonstrated experience within the Catholic Church, a Catholic agency or another relevant faith-based organisation.
Sound grounding in Catholic catechesis and contemporary catechetical practice, with the ability to engage credibly with clergy, theologians, educators and formation leaders.
Experience developing, curating or delivering accessible catechetical or formation resources for diverse audiences.
Demonstrated experience building and maintaining effective relationships across diocesan, parish, education or other Church networks.
Experience coordinating consultation, engagement and collaborative projects involving multiple stakeholders.
Strong understanding of the governance, structures, mission and operating environment of the Catholic Church in Australia.
Experience implementing formation, mission,
religious education or engagement initiatives.
Strong organisational skills, including the ability to manage schedules, budgets and competing priorities within agreed timeframes.
Relevant tertiary qualifications in education, theology, religious education, leadership or a related discipline, and a current Working with Children Check.
Cultural and pastoral sensitivity, together with a strong personal commitment to the mission, teachings and evangelising work of the Catholic Church and the spiritual significance of the Eucharist.
