Early Childhood Kitchen Assistant | Bundoora n
We are seeking a cooperative Kitchen Assistant to join a growing early childhood service! Working closely alongside our Head Chef / Food Safety Supervisor, you will play a vital role in preparing nutritious meals for the children while contributing fresh ideas to the kitchen team. This hands‐on role suits an individual who has strong communication, genuine teamwork, and a shared passion for food safety and quality in line with the Food Act ****.
Key Responsibilities n
n
Maintain compliance with the Food Act **** by executing daily food safety, storage, preparation, and documentation procedures, under the guidance of the Head Chef/ Food Safety Supervisor.
n
Follow dietary requirements and allergy plans to safely prepare, label, and serve modified meals and snacks for children with food allergies or intolerances.
n
Set up and deliver meal trolleys to each room according to the daily schedule.
n
Maintain high kitchen hygiene standards by cleaning and sanitising prep areas before and after use.
n
Assist the Head Chef with food preparation, which should include cutting vegetables, making sandwiches, and assembling snacks.
n
Operate, clean,
and maintain dishwashing through the day and properly store all clean crockery, cutlery, and utensils.
n
Actively engage in on-the-job training to master meal preparation and food ordering procedures.
n
Open flexibility to cover and prepare children's meals when the Head Chef is absent (once fully trained).
n
Carry out reasonable ad-hoc tasks as directed by the Management team, Food Safety Supervisor and Randstad (if applicable).
n
Adhere to Centre policies and procedures to ensure a safe, compliant environment for children and staff.

Requirements & Qualifications n
n
Education: Certificate III in Commercial Cookery or equivalent experience (desirable, not essential)
n
Food Safety: DoFoodSafely certification.
n
First Aid: Valid First Aid Certification (HLTAID011 or HLTAID012).
n
Child Protection:n
n
Mandatory Reporting Training (free online).
n
Foundations & Advanced Child Safety Training (free online via GECKO).
n
Valid Working with Children Check (WWCC) or willingness to obtain.
n
