This role provides direct patient care, assists in staffing and administrative oversight during shifts, and serves as a resource and leader to other nursing staff.
The charge RN ensures that nursing care is delivered in accordance with hospital policy, nursing standards, and regulatory requirements.Essential FunctionsOversees nursing operations during assigned shifts in Women's Services & PediatricsProvides direct patient care using the nursing process according to state practice laws and hospital policiesDelegates tasks to licensed and unlicensed staff based on competency and scope of practiceSupports and promotes safe, evidence-based,
and patient-centered careAssists in coordinating staffing and break coverageCollaborates with supervisors and physicians to resolve care delivery issuesMentors and supports RN, LPN, and support staffParticipates in planning, implementing, and evaluating patient careCompletes required documentation and ensures EMR accuracyComplies with quality and safety guidelines, including infection control standardsKnowledge/Skills/Abilities/ExpectationsClinical expertise in maternal-child or pediatric nursingLeadership, decision-making, and conflict-resolution skillsAbility to mentor and guide clinical staff during assigned shiftsEffective communication and organizational skillsFamiliarity with electronic documentation and hospital protocolsAbility to stand, walk, and assist patients throughout the shiftMust be able to lift up to 50 poundsRequires manual dexterity and ability to respond to emergenciesWomen's Services and Pediatrics inpatient care environmentExposure to blood, body fluids, and communicable diseasesUse of personal protective equipment (PPE) is requiredMay encounter physically and emotionally demanding situations
EducationGraduate of an accredited nursing program, requiredLicenses/CertificationsCurrent Registered Nurse license in applicable state or compact license, requiredBasic Life Support (BLS) certification within time frame required by facility policyPediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) within time frame required by facility policyNeonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) certification within time frame required by facility policyNIH Stroke Certification annually, within time frame required by facility policyExperiencePrevious clinical nursing experience in Women's Services or Pediatrics preferred
