Highly regarded in their industry, our client is a specialist engineering and construction business delivering structural solutions for major building and infrastructure projects. With a solid pipeline of work for the foreseeable future, the business is investing in its finance team to support its Victorian operations through an exciting period of growth.

The Opportunity

We’re looking for a capable Assistant Accountant who wants more than a transactional role. Reporting to the Senior Accountant and working closely with the Financial Controller and operational leaders, you’ll own month-end and project accounting, and become a trusted point of contact for the project teams. It’s a broad, varied role that gives you real exposure to how a construction business runs and makes money, plus the backing to keep developing your career.

What you’ll be doing

- Owning the month-end close across AP, AR, fixed assets, bank reconciliations and the general ledger, including accruals
- Working with project managers to set up job budgets and KPIs at project handover, and providing ongoing financial analysis
- Preparing and recording progress claims, and tracking retentions
- Maintaining the cash flow model, tracking revenue, costs and retentions, and reconciling to the bank
- Managing debtors, including RCTIs and collections




- Processing weekly site-based payroll in line with EBA requirements
- Processing accounts payable and supplier compliance
- Maintaining the asset register and supporting the CAPEX and depreciation process
- Supporting stocktakes and inventory management
- Helping drive consistent finance processes and systems across the business

About you

- A degree in Accounting, Finance or a related discipline
- CA or CPA qualified, or currently studying towards it (study support is available)
- Ideally 3+ years’ post-graduate experience, with confidence running month-end independently
- Construction, contracting or project accounting experience is highly regarded, particularly progress claims, retentions and EBA payroll
- Jobpac experience is a real advantage, though SAP, Pronto or similar ERP experience is also welcome
- Strong Excel skills and a sharp eye for detail
- A proactive, self-motivated approach and the confidence to work with project managers and senior stakeholders
