About the Role

GBS Recruitment is currently seeking expressions of interest from reliable, hardworking and adaptable individuals for casual Emergency Services Support positions across Western Victoria.

As a labour hire partner of the Department of Energy, Workplace and Climate Action (DEECA), GBS Recruitment provides personnel to support essential emergency response operations throughout Victoria.

During significant bushfires and other natural disasters, additional support staff may be required to assist with base camp operations, logistics, equipment management and the day-to-day activities that enable emergency response teams to operate effectively.

We are recruiting for a pool of casual workers across the following positions:

- Ground Support Workers – $35.06 per hour
- Forklift Drivers – $37.50 per hour
- Supervisors – $41.00 per hour

These positions are suited to individuals who can respond to short notice work opportunities and are comfortable working in changing operational environments.

Work is offered on an as-needed basis and is dependent on emergency response requirements.

Duties and Responsibilities

Depending on the position and operational requirements, duties may include:
Ground Support Workers

- Establishing and maintaining temporary emergency response base camps
- Assisting with the distribution and management of clothing, supplies and equipment
- Refuelling vehicles and supporting general logistics activities
- Assisting with food preparation, meal distribution and general kitchen operations
- Performing general labouring, manual handling and site support duties

Forklift Drivers

- Operating forklifts to safely load, unload and transport materials and equipment
- Supporting the movement and organisation of stock and supplies




- Assisting with base camp logistics and inventory management
- Maintaining safe operating practices and following site safety procedures

Supervisors

- Supervising and coordinating teams of casual support workers
- Allocating daily tasks and monitoring work activities
- Acting as a point of contact between support personnel, management and relevant agencies
- Coordinating operational requirements to support efficient base camp activities
- Monitoring compliance with workplace health and safety requirements

To be successful in this role, you will have:

- A strong work ethic and a reliable, adaptable approach
- The ability to work effectively both independently and within a team
- Good physical fitness and the capacity to undertake repetitive manual handling
- A willingness to work outdoors in varying weather conditions
- Strong communication skills and the ability to follow operational instructions
- Flexibility to undertake assignments at short notice
- Relevant operational experience, licences or supervisory skills for specialised positions

Mandatory Eligibility Requirements
Applicants must:

- Hold a current driver's licence
- Hold a current National Police Check or be willing to obtain one
- Be an Australian citizen, permanent resident or New Zealand citizen with valid working rights
- Provide a birth certificate or passport as evidence of working rights
- Hold appropriate qualifications and licences for forklift or plant operation, where applicable




- Successfully complete GBS Recruitment's onboarding and online induction requirements

Important Information About These Roles
These are casual, on-call positions that become available during significant emergency events. Hours and assignment durations will vary depending on operational requirements.

Applicants should be aware that assignments may involve:

- Working shifts of up to 12 hours for a maximum of seven consecutive days
- Travelling to emergency response locations across Western Victoria
- Remaining away from home for several days or nights, with basic accommodation and meals provided
- Working in outdoor environments and adapting to changing operational conditions

These positions provide operational and logistical support only. They do not involve frontline firefighting duties.
