About the Role
GBS Recruitment is seeking reliable, adaptable and community-minded individuals to join our pool of casual Emergency Services Support Staff across South East Victoria.
Working in partnership with the Department of Energy, Environment and Climate Action (DEECA), we provide labour hire personnel to assist with essential logistics, operational and base camp support during significant emergency events, including bushfires and other natural disasters.
These positions provide an opportunity to contribute to Victoria's emergency response efforts by supporting the personnel and operations working to protect our communities.
We are currently accepting registrations for the following casual positions:
- Ground Support Workers – $35.06 per hour
- Forklift Drivers – $37.50 per hour
- Supervisors – $41.00 per hour
These are casual, on-call positions, with assignments offered as operational requirements arise. There is no guarantee of ongoing or regular work.
Duties and Responsibilities
Depending on your skills, experience and assigned position, responsibilities may include:
Ground Support Workers
- Setting up and maintaining emergency response base camps
- Organising and distributing clothing, equipment and supplies
- Refuelling vehicles and assisting with general logistics
- Assisting catering providers with food preparation, meal distribution and general kitchen duties
- Undertaking general labouring and operational support activities
Forklift Drivers
- Safely operating forklifts to move, load and unload equipment and supplies
- Assisting with inventory management and stock movements
- Supporting logistics and material handling activities within base camps and operational sites
- Ensuring protected equipment operation and compliance with workplace safety procedures
Supervisors
- Coordinating and supervising small teams of casual support personnel
- Allocating tasks and monitoring daily operational activities
- Liaising with management and relevant emergency response personnel
- Supporting efficient base camp operations and logistics
- Ensuring compliance with workplace health and safety procedures

- Good physical fitness and the ability to undertake manual handling tasks
- A willingness to work outdoors in challenging weather and operational conditions
- Strong communication skills and a commitment to workplace safety
- The ability to respond to short notice work opportunities and changing operational requirements
- Relevant experience and licences for forklift or supervisory positions
Mandatory Eligibility Requirements
Applicants must:
- Hold a current driver's licence
- Hold a current National Police Check or be willing to obtain one
- Be an Australian citizen, permanent resident or New Zealand citizen with valid working rights
- Provide a birth certificate or passport to verify working rights
- Hold relevant qualifications and licences for plant and equipment operation, where applicable
- Complete GBS Recruitment's registration, onboarding and online induction requirements
Important Information About These Roles
Emergency Services Support Staff are engaged on a casual, as-needed basis during significant emergency events.
Assignments may involve:
- Working up to 12-hour shifts for a maximum of seven consecutive days
- Travelling to operational sites and remaining away from home for several days or nights
- Working outdoors in demanding and changing conditions
- Basic accommodation and meals being provided when required
These are non-frontline support positions. Successful applicants will not be required to undertake firefighting duties.
Candidates must complete all required onboarding and pre-employment checks before being considered for assignments.
