Keep the numbers right. Make a difference behind the scenes.
What if your next finance role gave you the opportunity to take genuine ownership of the accounts while working closely with a supportive leadership team?
We’re looking for an experienced Finance and Accounts Officer who is confident with Xero, understands the bookkeeping cycle through to month-end, and takes pride in accurate financial records and well-organised systems.
Who Are We
Optiva provides corporate and business support services to entities operating across the employment, assessment and health sectors.
We value integrity, professionalism, accountability and respect, and work collaboratively to deliver effective business operations.
Your Impact
As our Finance and Accounts Officer, you’ll manage the day-to-day financial administration across Optiva and its supported entities.
In this role you will:
- Maintain Xero records, coding and financial documentation
- Manage accounts payable and receivable, invoicing and suppliers
- Process expenses, purchase orders and approved payments
- Complete bank, credit card and supplier reconciliations
- Investigate and resolve discrepancies
- Complete month-end bookkeeping and prepare reports for external accountants
- Manage finance administration through Budgetly, Prezzee and Employment Hero
- Prepare contractor superannuation information
- Respond to finance enquiries and provide records as required
- Identify practical improvements to financial processes
Our external accountants support month-end review, BAS preparation and ATO matters, while the CEO provides payment approval.
Where You’ll Work
This is a part-time position, 5 days per week, 4 hours per day.
You’ll work directly with the CEO and broader team, with the autonomy to manage your responsibilities and contribute to improving financial processes.
What You Bring
We’re looking for someone with strong bookkeeping capability, sound judgement and a high level of accuracy.
You’ll bring:
- 3+ years’ hands-on bookkeeping experience, including month-end
- Strong Xero experience across AP, AR, invoicing and reconciliations
- Experience investigating discrepancies and resolving issues
- Robust Excel and Microsoft Office skills
- Ability to manage competing priorities and deadlines
- Clear communication with accountants, suppliers and colleagues
- A proactive, practical approach to problem-solving
- Ability to work independently
- High standards of confidentiality and financial integrity
A relevant qualification in Accounting, Bookkeeping, Finance or Business Administration is desirable.
You’ll also need:
- Current National Police Check
- Current driver’s licence
- Reliable, comprehensively insured vehicle
If you’re an experienced bookkeeper or finance professional who knows Xero,
understands month-end and takes pride in getting the detail right, we want to hear from you.
We’re particularly interested in how you solve problems and approach your work, not simply the systems listed on your resume.
Why Join Optiva?
- Meaningful responsibility: Take charge of day-to-day finance with direct access to the CEO and support from experienced external accountants.
- Variety with specialist support: Work across AP, AR, reconciliations, month-end and reporting, with external support for BAS and ATO matters.
- A balanced working environment: Enjoy a 20-hour working week across 5 days, professional support and the opportunity to contribute ideas that improve how finance operates.
You’ll also enjoy:
Birthday leave
- Employee Assistance Program
- Professional development
- Direct access to senior leadership
- Opportunities to improve systems and processes
- A workplace built on integrity, inclusion, accountability and respect
Ready to Make an Impact?
If you’re looking for a part-time finance role where your experience, judgement and contribution matter, apply with your resume and a cover letter addressing:
- Why does this role interest you?
- What relevant finance and Xero experience do you bring?
- Tell us about a financial discrepancy you identified and resolved.
