The organisation
Tasc is a registered not-for-profit community legal and social justice centre committed to ensuring people and communities are seen, heard, and respected. We advocate for fairness, champion change, and support people to navigate complex legal and social issues. Based in Toowoomba, with offices in Ipswich, Goondiwindi, Roma, Hervey Bay, and Gympie, we provide a range of free services including legal advice and advocacy to people across Greater South-West Queensland.
The position
This volunteer role offers the prospect to shape the governance, strategy, and future of one of Queensland’s largest regional community legal centres.
The Non-Executive Director will complement the skills and experience of the existing Board, contributing strategic thinking, sound judgement, and contemporary governance capability to support the next phase of Tasc’s STEP28 strategy, working closely with fellow Directors, the Chief Executive Officer, and key stakeholders.
Board members are expected to actively participate in Board meetings and decision-making, prepare for meetings, contribute their expertise and perspectives, and support effective governance and strategic oversight of Tasc.
Duties include:
- Ten meetings per year including the AGM which is held in November.
- Periodic circulating resolutions that require attention between meetings.
- Participation in sub-committees where relevant.
- Minimum one day per year in-person, dedicated to strategy or training.
The person
We welcome interest from people with skillsets in one or more of the following:
- Marketing,
fundraising, or communications
- Community legal / access to justice sector
- Healthcare, mental health, or disability
- First Nations leadership
- Older persons advocacy
- Regional, rural, and remote service delivery
Connection to our Communities
Our geographical reach is significant, but you don’t need to be permanently based within our catchment, though we welcome interest from our rural and remote communities.
What is important is that you bring a connection to, understanding of, or experience with communities like ours and an appreciation of the opportunities and challenges associated with delivering services across regional, rural and remote areas.
Previous Board or governance experience and AICD/DCIA qualifications are highly desirable though not essential.
