We've been asked to keep this search under wraps - so for now, the company stays confidential.
However, what we can tell you is that we're looking for an experienced engineering leader to step into a genuinely influential VP of Engineering role for an initial 6-month fixed-term contract.
And this isn't a role where you'll simply keep the lights on.
You'll be stepping into an established engineering environment with good people, strong technical capability and some genuinely interesting work already underway.
Your job?
Help the teams get better at how they work.
The Prospect
At its core, this is a people leadership role - but we're looking for someone who brings real engineering substance behind it.
You'll lead across multiple engineering teams, working closely with Engineering Managers and senior technical leaders to improve how teams operate, make decisions and ultimately deliver.
You'll coach an Engineering Manager currently operating across several teams, helping them grow their leadership capability while stepping closer to the teams yourself when needed.
Sometimes that means helping solve a delivery problem.
Sometimes it's identifying why a team isn't operating effectively.
Sometimes it's helping engineers become more product-minded.
And sometimes it's getting out of the way because everything is working exactly as it should.
The common thread is that you've done this before.
You'll know what a high-performing engineering team looks like - and, importantly, you'll know how to help one get there.
From day one, you'll be navigating:
- Multiple engineering teams with different challenges, maturity levels and priorities
- Coaching and developing Engineering Managers and senior technical leaders
- Translating broader strategy into something teams can actually execute against
- Improving engineering practices without introducing unnecessary process
- Helping teams become more autonomous, experimental and outcome-focused
- Balancing immediate delivery challenges with broader engineering improvements
- Collaborating with engineering leadership and stakeholders across different regions
There's a broader engineering footprint beyond the teams you'll directly support, so while your immediate remit will be deliberately focused, there'll be plenty of opportunity for your impact to travel further.
What makes this role interesting:
We're not looking for someone to arrive with a predetermined playbook and start changing things for the sake of it.
We're looking for someone who can identify where engineering teams are being held back - and actually do something about it.
That could mean helping teams move toward continuous deployment.
Improving how engineering and product work together.
Breaking down silos between teams.
Introducing better ways to share technical knowledge.
Helping teams experiment more effectively and use real product data to understand whether what they're building is actually working.
Or looking at how AI can be used across engineering workflows - from testing and experimentation through to development processes, tooling and governance.
The emphasis is on measurable improvement, not technology theatre.
Over six months, success should be visible.
Teams operating more effectively. Engineering Managers becoming stronger leaders. Better collaboration. Better delivery. Less friction. And improvements that extend beyond the teams immediately under your leadership.
That's the impact we're looking for.
What you'll bring:
The non-negotiable?
You've led multiple engineering teams.
We're looking for someone who has operated above the single-team Engineering Manager level and understands the complexity that comes with balancing multiple teams, competing priorities and different leadership challenges.
Beyond that, we'd love to see depth across a few areas:
- Experience coaching Engineering Managers, Staff Engineers and other senior technical leaders
- Strong engineering fundamentals and a track record of improving engineering practices across multiple teams
- Experience translating company or product strategy into clear priorities and execution
- Evidence of improving engineering productivity, delivery or collaboration at an organisational level
- Experience helping teams move toward more autonomous, product-informed and experiment-driven ways of working
- Strong technical judgement across modern engineering practices, architecture and platforms
- Experience with continuous deployment, modern delivery practices or broader engineering transformation
- The ability to influence across Product, Design, Engineering and business stakeholders
- A pragmatic approach to technology - you care about the outcome, not introducing something shiny for the sake of it
And if you've spent the last 6-12 months exploring how AI can meaningfully improve engineering at an organisational level?
Even better.
We're particularly interested in people who have moved beyond individual AI productivity tools and started thinking about AI across engineering processes, experimentation, testing, tooling or governance.
Who might this suit?
Someone who's already been at a VP Engineering, Head of Engineering or CTO-level and likes the idea of stepping into a defined challenge where they can make an impact quickly.
You've seen the movie before.
You've built teams, coached leaders, improved engineering practices and worked through the messy realities of getting multiple teams moving in the same direction.
You don't need a huge runway to figure out how to add value.
You can listen, understand the environment, build trust quickly and get to work.
Location & Contract
Brisbane-based
Initial 6-month fixed-term contract
This is a genuine fixed-term employment opportunity rather than a day-rate engagement, with the associated employee benefits.
For an exceptional VP-level candidate, there may be flexibility around the initial contract term.
If you're an experienced engineering leader who enjoys making teams better - not just bigger - we'd love to have a confidential conversation.
