Take ownership of the mechanical and structural engineering scope on a significant infrastructure upgrade within a live heavy industrial operation.

This is a hands-on, site-based project leadership role for an experienced Mechanical Engineer who enjoys being close to the work: resolving technical issues, working with contractors and vendors, overseeing installation and ultimately taking mechanical systems through completion, commissioning and handover.

Working within an established capital projects team, you will lead the mechanical discipline across a major upgrade incorporating new crushing and bulk materials handling infrastructure within an operating site.

The chance
You will be the key point of accountability for the mechanical and structural scope, taking responsibility from design assurance and equipment procurement through construction, installation, completion and commissioning.

The project incorporates a new impact crusher, screening and conveying systems, stacker reclaimer and stockpile reclaim infrastructure, chute and transfer systems, structural steel, platework, piping and associated plant services.

Importantly, this is not simply a design engineering position. You will spend significant time in the field working alongside contractors, operations, maintenance and other engineering disciplines to ensure the plant can be safely constructed, commissioned and integrated into an operating facility.

Key responsibilities

- Own mechanical and structural design assurance across the project.
- Lead technical review of equipment, drawings, specifications and vendor submissions.
- Oversee crushing, screening, conveying and bulk materials handling packages.
- Prepare technical specifications, scopes of work and tender evaluations.
- Manage vendor technical performance and major equipment procurement.

- Lead constructability and maintainability reviews with operations and maintenance.
- Oversee mechanical and structural installation through the site delivery team.
- Resolve contractor technical queries, NCRs, design changes and site issues.
- Coordinate mechanical interfaces with civil, electrical and controls disciplines.
- Manage mechanical interfaces with the operating plant, including shutdowns and tie-ins.
- Own mechanical completions, punch lists and system turnover packages.
- Support pre-commissioning, load testing, performance testing and final handover.

The position also has responsibility for a small mechanical team, with approximately 3 direct reports and 3-5 total reports plus contractor supervisory personnel.

What we are looking for
You will be a practical Mechanical Engineer who has delivered major heavy industrial plant in the field and can comfortably move between engineering detail and construction delivery.

Ideally, you will bring:

- Degree qualification in Mechanical Engineering.
- 10+ years' mechanical engineering experience within resources, quarrying, cement or heavy industrial capital projects.
- Previous discipline lead or package leadership experience on significant capital projects.
- Strong experience with crushing, screening, conveying or comparable bulk materials handling plant.
- Working knowledge of conveyors, transfer points, chutes, structural steel and mechanical equipment.
- Brownfield construction experience within a live production environment.

- Experience taking equipment from design and procurement through installation and commissioning.
- Strong contractor and vendor management capability.
- Experience managing shutdowns, tie-ins and operational interfaces.
- Sound mechanical completions and commissioning knowledge.
- Experience with stacker reclaimers, enclosed stockpiles, cement, lime or quarry operations, offshore equipment sourcing and 3D model reviews will be particularly valuable.

Why consider this role?
This is an opportunity to take genuine discipline ownership on a major, technically complex brownfield project rather than operating as one engineer within a large design team.

You will have visibility across the full project lifecycle and the ability to influence equipment selection, constructability, installation methodology, commissioning and operational handover.

The role is site based at Marulan for the project delivery phase, providing the opportunity to remain close to the construction and directly influence project outcomes.
