About the International Eucharistic Congress (Eucharist28) Eucharist28 is a global event of the Catholic Church centred on the Eucharist. Sydney will host the Congress in 2028, bringing together tens of thousands of people from around the world and hundreds of thousands of Australians. The 2028 Congress marks the centenary of Australia’s first International Eucharistic Congress, held in Sydney in 1928. Last hosted in Australia in 1973, it will return Sydney to the centre of the global Catholic Church and seek to renew Christian life and participation in the Church’s mission. The Catholic Archdiocese of Sydney is seeking a senior leader who can grow participation, revenue and partnerships while ensuring the Congress’s public presence reflects the mission of the Church. About the Role The Director of Marketing and Partnerships leads the integrated marketing, communications, partnerships and digital portfolio for Eucharist28 and is accountable for audience growth, the tech stack, registration, sponsorship and fundraising outcomes. Reporting to the Chief Operating Officer, you will lead three direct reports and seven indirect reports across marketing, communications, registration sales, sponsorship, fundraising, brand, CRM and audience technology. You will set the multi-year strategy, maintain revenue forecasts, oversee agencies and coordinate campaign, content and technology dependencies against fixed event milestones.
The role works closely with the Senior Marketing and Communications Manager, Commercial Director, the Director of Events and Operations, Archdiocesan teams and Church stakeholders. This is a full-time, fixed-term position until 22 December 2028, based at Polding Place, 75 Elizabeth Street, Sydney. About You You are a senior marketing and commercial leader who can turn strategy into coordinated delivery, carry revenue accountability and lead multidisciplinary teams across complex stakeholder and supplier relationships. Specifically, as the ideal candidate for this role, you will meet the following key requirements: At least 10 years’ senior leadership experience in marketing, communications, digital strategy or commercial revenue roles within complex organisations. Experience leading major national or international marketing campaigns; major event experience is highly regarded. Proven delivery of sales and marketing, sponsorship, partnerships and fundraising programs. Strong program management across concurrent workstreams, budgets, risks, dependencies and fixed deadlines. Experience overseeing CRM and marketing technology, including integrations, data, analytics, privacy and cybersecurity in partnership with Technology Services. Proven management of agencies, consultants, vendors and service providers, with clear governance and commercial accountability. Strong brand, communications and audience growth capability in national and international markets.
Ability to lead multidisciplinary teams and build productive stakeholder relationships. Tertiary qualifications in marketing, communications, digital media, business, commerce or a related discipline. A committed Christian faith, with a strong understanding of, or genuine desire to grow in, the mission and life of the Catholic Church and the spiritual significance of the Eucharist. Your impact will be seen in robust registration, sponsorship and fundraising results, clear forecasts, consistent public messaging and a coordinated portfolio that meets key Congress milestones. Applicants must have unrestricted work rights in Australia. The successful candidate will be required to undertake a Nationally Coordinated Criminal History Check and must have a current Working with Children Check, or willingness to obtain one.
