Jevons Robotics

Perth

The Head of Engineering is accountable for the technical leadership and delivery of Jevons Robotics' physical AI platforms and engineering programs. Leading a multidisciplinary team spanning software, autonomy, electrical and mechanical engineering, the role turns complex technical requirements into robust, integrated systems that perform reliably in demanding real-world environments. This is a software-forward engineering leadership role. The role is based in Perth and will include travel to customer sites, suppliers and field trials as required.

Key responsibilities

Own engineering delivery across the Jevons product portfolio, from requirements and architecture through build, integration, verification, field deployment and product improvement.

Translate business and customer requirements into clear engineering priorities, work packages, accountable owners and delivery commitments.

Create clarity across software, electrical and mechanical disciplines by defining technical ownership, interfaces, decision rights and measurable outcomes.

Hold the engineering team accountable for delivery, measured by working systems, product performance, reliability, development velocity and execution against customer and business commitments.

Personally engage in difficult technical problems when senior expertise is required to unblock the team, while maintaining transparent ownership with the responsible engineer.

Build an engineering culture with a strong bias toward action, high personal ownership, practical problem solving and urgency without compromising safety or engineering integrity.

Provide senior technical leadership across software architecture, embedded systems, controls, autonomy, perception, communications, machine interfaces and electronics.

Establish scalable software and electronics architectures that support a growing product portfolio and avoid unnecessary bespoke development for individual programs or customers.

Own the integration of software, electrical, electronic and mechanical systems into complete robotic platforms, with disciplined management of requirements, interfaces, failure modes, testing and verification.

Lead, coach and develop a multidisciplinary engineering team spanning software, electrical/electronics and mechanical engineering, creating clear standards for performance, ownership and collaboration.

About you

Degree in Software Engineering, Computer Science, Electrical/Electronic Engineering, Mechatronics, Robotics or a closely related engineering discipline, or equivalent demonstrated experience.

Deep domain expertise in software development, embedded systems, controls, electronics, robotics and/or autonomous systems, with the ability to review architecture and meaningfully challenge technical decisions.

Demonstrated experience leading multidisciplinary engineering teams across software,

electrical/electronics and mechanical interfaces.

A track record of delivering complex machines or physical AI systems from development through integration, testing and real-world deployment.

Strong systems thinking and the ability to simplify complex technical programs into clear architecture, interfaces, accountabilities and delivery priorities.

Experience establishing software development practices, engineering standards, test and verification approaches, configuration management and disciplined release processes.

Demonstrated ownership mentality: comfortable accepting accountability for outcomes, making decisions with imperfect information and driving issues through to resolution.

High personal energy and a strong bias toward action, motivated by building, solving and delivering.

Confident and engaging communicator who can present technical material credibly to engineers, customers, partners, suppliers, executives and Board-level audiences.

Ability to operate effectively in a scale-up environment where priorities move quickly and leaders are expected to contribute beyond narrow functional boundaries.
