The successful candidate will need to undertake and possess:
- Provide routine nursing care and monitor the health, condition, behaviour, and recovery of animals.
- Assist veterinarians with examinations, treatments, vaccinations, procedures, and surgical operations.
- Prepare animals, equipment, instruments, and treatment areas for veterinary procedures.
- Monitor animals before, during, and after surgery, including vital signs and recovery.
- Administer medications, treatments, and prescribed veterinary care under veterinary direction.
- Collect and prepare blood, urine, tissue, and other specimens for laboratory testing.
- Maintain accurate animal medical records, treatment notes, medication records, and clinical information.
- Provide post-operative care, wound care, feeding, exercise, and recovery support.
- Handle, restrain, transport,
and care for animals safely and humanely.
- Clean, disinfect, sterilise, and maintain veterinary instruments, cages, kennels, and treatment areas.
- Assist with diagnostic equipment and routine laboratory procedures as required.
- Educate animal owners on medication, nutrition, hygiene, post-treatment care, and general animal welfare.
- Maintain appropriate infection control, hygiene, biosecurity, and workplace health and safety procedures.
- Assist with inventory management and maintain adequate supplies of medications, equipment, and veterinary materials.
