Make a meaningful difference through secure and sustainable housing
Metro Community Housing is looking for an experienced and compassionate Transitional Housing Officer to join its team in Newtown on a permanent basis.
This is an opportunity to support people as they transition out of homelessness and work towards securing long-term, affordable housing. Managing a portfolio of transitional properties, you’ll be the key point of contact for tenants and their support partners, delivering tenancy services that are person-centred, trauma-informed and focused on positive, sustainable outcomes.
About the role
Reporting to the Housing Team Leader, you’ll manage day-to-day tenancy services across Metro Community Housing’s transitional housing program.
You’ll work closely with tenants, support providers and other stakeholders, balancing strong tenancy management with empathy, clear communication and a practical, solutions-focused approach.
Your responsibilities will include:
- Managing end-to-end tenancy services across a portfolio of transitional properties, including sign-ups, vacates, handovers and lease documentation
- Building strong relationships with tenants, support providers and other stakeholders, providing clear guidance on tenancy rights, responsibilities and expectations
- Conducting property inspections and managing rent reviews, rental arrears and bond matters
- Responding to complaints, antisocial behaviour and complex tenant matters in a calm, respectful and trauma-informed way
- Supporting leasehold property requirements and Community Housing Leasing Program applications
- Representing Metro Community Housing at the NSW Civil and Administrative Tribunal when required
- Maintaining accurate case notes and reporting in Pathways and SDM,
while ensuring compliance with relevant legislation, policies and procedures.
About you
You’ll bring a strong understanding of tenancy management and a genuine commitment to supporting people experiencing housing insecurity.
To be successful, you will ideally have:
- At least two years’ experience in housing or homelessness services, preferably within community housing, social services or a not-for-profit environment
- A Certificate IV in Social Housing or a related discipline, or equivalent relevant experience
- Knowledge of the NSW Residential Tenancies Act and Housing Pathways policies and processes
- Experience managing stakeholder and service partnerships
- A person-centred and client-focused approach
- The ability to manage complex situations with professionalism, respect and sound judgement
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Excellent organisation, time management and attention to detail
- Confidence working collaboratively with internal teams, tenants and external support partners
- Strong computer and systems literacy
- A commitment to culturally responsive, trauma-informed and values-led practice.
Mandatory requirements
The successful applicant will need to obtain a satisfactory National Police Check, Working with Children Check, have a current NSW driver licence as well as access to your own vehicle.
