ANGRYchair
Melbourne
Location: South Yarra, onsite
Part-time: 4 set days per week
Reporting to: Experience Team Lead
We’re looking for a Technology Specialist to take ownership of the technology, systems and technical problem-solving that keeps ANGRYchair running.
This is not a traditional IT support role.
We’re looking for someone who is naturally good with technology, loves solving problems, can work things out quickly, and is comfortable taking responsibility for things they may not have seen before.
You do not need to know everything already.
You do need to be the kind of person who can look at a problem, investigate it, use ChatGPT or Claude, Google it, read documentation, test a few things, call one of our external specialists if needed, and keep going until the problem is resolved.
One day you might be troubleshooting why an editor’s Mac is running slowly.
The next you might be researching replacement computers, improving the way our website gets updated, reviewing how we use AI safely, working through a HubSpot problem, checking our password and access setup, improving our LTO archive process, or coordinating with our external IT provider.
The big goal is simple: make sure our team can work effectively and technical problems don’t need to become the Founder's problems.
You’ll sit within our Experience Team, reporting to our Experience Team Lead, and work closely with our Data & Automation Engineer, who focuses more deeply on coding, integrations and automation.
What you’ll own
Technology and problem-solving
You’ll become the first person the team turns to when something technological isn’t working properly.
That might include:
- Troubleshooting Macs, monitors, printers, peripherals and everyday software issues
- Investigating hardware or performance problems affecting our editors and creative team
- Researching new computers, equipment and software
- Helping determine when technology should be repaired, upgraded, replaced or retired
- Coordinating with external IT providers such as CompNow and other technical specialists
- Identifying recurring problems and finding ways to stop them happening again
You won’t need to personally solve every technical issue. You will need to own the outcome , rather than simply passing problems on.
Business systems
You’ll help take ownership of the platforms and systems we use to run the business.
This will include developing a strong understanding of systems such as:
- HubSpot
- Google Workspace
- Airtable
- Notion
- WordPress
- Frame.io
- Vimeo
- Our internal forms, tools and SaaS platforms
You’ll help keep these systems organised, usable and working together properly.
You’ll also look for bottlenecks and opportunities to improve how we use them.
For example, if publishing a blog is taking too long, your job isn’t simply to upload the blog.
Your job is to understand why it is taking too long and improve the process .
Systems improvement and automation
You’ll work closely with our Data & Automation Engineer to improve the way ANGRYchair operates.
You'll need to be able to understand a workflow, identify where things are going wrong or wasting time, and work out what a better process could look like.
Where deeper coding, APIs or automation are required, you'll build the solution together using tools such as n8n, Zapier, Snowflake and BigQuery.
You’ll often be responsible for defining the problem,
understanding the business need and making sure the final solution actually works for the team.
Cybersecurity and access
You’ll help ensure ANGRYchair uses technology safely and sensibly.
This may include:
- Password management
- Passkeys and multi-factor authentication
- Account permissions and access
- User onboarding and offboarding
- Device security
- SaaS access
- AI security and data handling
- Backup procedures
- Vendor access
- General cybersecurity hygiene
You are not expected to be a cybersecurity expert.
You are expected to recognise when something needs deeper expertise, research the issue and engage the right external specialist where required.
AI and emerging technology
AI is becoming an increasingly important part of how we work.
You’ll help ANGRYchair understand how to use AI tools effectively and safely.
This could include:
- Evaluating new AI tools
- Helping establish safe and practical AI policies
- Understanding privacy, security and data risks
- Helping team members use AI more effectively
- Identifying repetitive work that technology could improve
- Working with our Data & Automation Engineer on AI-enabled workflows
- Keeping across relevant technology changes without chasing every shiny new thing
We’re particularly interested in someone who already uses tools such as ChatGPT or Claude as part of the way they research, learn and solve problems.
Media technology, storage and archive
Video Production comes with some specialised technology requirements.
Over time, you’ll develop a strong understanding of how our media and storage environment works, including:
- Media ingest
- File storage
- Backups
- LTO tape archive
- Archive retrieval and recovery
- Shared storage
- Drive and network performance
- Media workflows
- Equipment lifecycle
You don’t need to arrive knowing all of this.
You need to be technically curious enough to learn it and eventually take ownership of it.
Documentation and business continuity
A major part of this role is making yourself replaceable.
We do not want important knowledge living inside one person’s head.
You’ll be responsible for building and maintaining a practical internal knowledge base covering things such as:
- Systems maps
- Workflow diagrams
- Technical procedures
- Troubleshooting guides
- Vendor contacts
- Escalation pathways
- Hardware and software registers
- Access and permission structures
- Backup and recovery procedures
- Archive processes
- Key technical decisions and why they were made
- Onboarding and offboarding procedures
- “What do I do if this breaks?” guides
Solve it once. Document it. Make the next time easier. Automate it where worthwhile.
What success looks like
You are succeeding in this role when:
- The team knows who to go to when they have a technology problem.
- Technical issues are resolved quickly and reliably, and repetitive problems gradually disappear
- Changes, outages and new tools are communicated clearly and early across the team,
avoiding disruption to projects and deadlines
- HubSpot and our other business systems are properly understood and supported, and become easier to understand and use over time
- Technology decisions are researched properly before money is spent, and external providers are managed effectively
- Our cybersecurity and access practices are sensible and well maintained
- Systems and workflows become better documented, so key knowledge does not depend on one person
- Our use of AI and emerging technology becomes safer and more useful
- You regularly identify improvements we hadn’t thought to ask for
You’ll probably be excellent at this if you…
You’ll probably be great at this if you…
- Are naturally curious about technology and how things work
- Love solving problems
- Are comfortable saying “I don’t know yet, but I’ll work it out”
- Can independently research and investigate unfamiliar problems
- Use AI tools intelligently as part of your problem-solving process
- Have broad technical knowledge rather than only one narrow specialisation
- Are confident working in a Mac environment
- Understand basic IT concepts without needing to be a hardcore IT engineer
- Can explain technical things in plain English
- Are comfortable dealing with suppliers and external specialists
- Can make recommendations rather than simply presenting information
- Are organised and follow problems through until they are actually resolved
- Notice inefficient processes and instinctively want to improve them
- Document things properly instead of keeping knowledge in your head
- Enjoy helping people and making their work easier
- Are comfortable balancing lots of different small and large problems
- Know when to keep investigating and when to bring in an expert
Experience that would be useful
You don’t need experience in every one of these areas, but some exposure to the following would be valuable:
- Mac hardware and macOS
- Business IT support
- SaaS platforms
- Google Workspace
- CRM systems such as HubSpot
- WordPress or website administration
- Cybersecurity fundamentals
- Password managers and identity management
- Device management
- Networking fundamentals
- Backup systems
- Storage and file management
- AI tools
- Process mapping
- Documentation and knowledge bases
- Hardware procurement
- Working with external IT providers
HubSpot and Project Management experience would be a huge plus, however not essential.
Experience in a creative, media or video production environment would be useful, but it is not essential.
What this role is not
This is not a helpdesk role where you wait for tickets.
It is not a hardcore engineering or coding role.
It is not a video production technical role focused on cameras, lighting or production equipment.
It is not a senior executive technology role.
It is a hands‑on role for someone who can understand technology, take ownership, solve problems and continuously improve how a small business works.
ANGRYchair’s Core Values
- Smart, not Hard
- Razzle Dazzle
- We’re Not Saving Lives Here
- Bloody Excellent
- Improve Continuously
- Focus on People
If you’re the kind of person who likes being handed a messy problem, working out what’s actually going on, fixing it properly and then making sure everyone knows how it works next time, we’ll probably get along very well.
