Our client is a federal government department responsible for administering financial disclosure and funding requirements under Commonwealth legislation.
Its Regulatory Division educates and advises the entities that have disclosure obligations, publishes the returns they lodge, reviews those returns for accuracy and investigates suspected contraventions.
The team's focus is on producing outputs that are transparent, defensible and able to withstand external scrutiny.
The Opportunity
The Regulatory Division is expanding as its role evolves, and multiple APS5 positions are available across two work streams: compliance and investigations.
This role sits in the investigations stream, on a 12-month non-ongoing basis.
You'll work under general supervision as part of a supportive team, contributing to the integrity of a national funding and disclosure system and to public trust in it.
You'll have the chance to:
- Build your skills in analysis, problem solving and regulatory investigations in a team that is growing rather than standing still
- Use data and intelligence tools to proactively identify high-risk behaviours, entities and schemes, rather than only reacting to matters as they arise
- Work on anti-avoidance matters where your analysis and advice feed directly into decisions made by senior decision-makers
- Get support to complete a Certificate IV in Government Investigations if you don't already hold one
- Choose between Canberra and Melbourne as your base
The Role
As an Investigations Officer, you'll support investigations into potential contraventions of Commonwealth legislation, working under general supervision.
You'll be:
- Gathering, analysing and documenting information to support investigations into potential anti-avoidance schemes
- Reviewing documents and financial information to identify gaps or issues, and provide well-considered advice to support decision making
- Applying data and intelligence tools to proactively identify high-risk behaviours, entities and schemes that may pose a compliance risk
- Assessing patterns or indicators of non-compliance and contribute to the design of targeted compliance strategies
- Preparing clear and accurate briefing materials, reports and correspondence for decision-makers
- Contributing to maintaining quality standards and a consistent approach to investigations
The Ideal Person
You're curious and detail oriented, and you're comfortable working methodically through financial documents until the picture is clear.
You will bring the following skills and experience:
- A curious, detail-oriented approach, with the ability to analyse documents and financial information and spot gaps or inconsistencies
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, and an interest in using data to identify patterns or indicators of non-compliance
- Explicit written communication skills, with the ability to prepare accurate briefs, reports and correspondence
- The ability to work collaboratively as part of a team while taking initiative under general supervision
Australian citizenship and the ability to obtain a Baseline security clearance are essential.
It's also desirable if you have:
- A Certificate IV in Government Investigations (PSP40416) or willingness to undertake it with support from the agency
Salary / Rate
- $88k - $96k + Super
- 12-month non-ongoing
- Canberra or Melbourne based
HorizonOne is committed to building a diverse and inclusive workforce and we encourage applications from people of all cultures, capabilities and backgrounds.
