With positions available at Van Rook Station, Inkerman Station & Stirling Station (all of which are adjoining – as a central reference Van Rook Station is located approx. 135km north east of Normanton & Karumba and 632km west of Cairns in the Northern Queensland Gulf), the role would involve working in the station stock camp and being based at the main station complexes.
Duties & Responsibilities
- Mustering paddocks, drafting and operating yards, processing weaners, walking & educating cattle, loading and unloading of trucks and road trains, fencing repairs, running supplement feeding etc – at the direction of the Head Stockman.
- Ensuring mustering equipment (including tack, bikes, buggies, vehicles etc) is regularly kept clean and maintained and in the case of mechanical equipment, scheduled for servicing by the station mechanic.
- Ensuring the safety of all persons in the stock camp at all times.
- Ensuring the highest standards of welfare for all livestock on the station including horses.
- Commitment to the company’s solid Workplace Health & Safety program by ensuring the safety of all persons on the station at all times.
- Current driver’s license and ability to drive a manual vehicle.
- Must have strong skills and knowledge around caring for and riding horses
- Must be able to work well in a supportive team environment.
- Must show initiative with the ability to finish tasks.
- Practical thinking, good problem-solving skills and ability to communicate effectively with senior staff members when problems arise.
- Must be prepared to take ownership and responsibility for your actions.
- A genuine desire for a career path in the pastoral or agricultural industry.
- Must be hardworking, energetic and have a sense of humour!
Preferable but not essential
- Rural background.
- Sound horsemanship skills and motorbike skills.
- Experience operating a tractor.
- Previous experience working with cattle or horses and a basic understanding of the highest standards of animal welfare (full training will be provided).
