Our client is a well-established not-for-profit residential aged care provider based in Melbourne's south-east. With a strong focus on person-centred care, wellbeing and community, the organisation provides a supportive environment for both residents and employees.
Following a recent restructure, they are looking to appoint an experienced HR & Payroll Officer to take ownership across both the HR and payroll functions.
The Prospect This is a hands-on and varied role, suited to an experienced HR professional who enjoys being close to the business, building strong relationships and having genuine ownership across the employee lifecycle.
The role will be approximately 60% HR and 40% payroll , providing an opportunity to work across both people and payroll while contributing to the continued improvement of processes and systems.
You will partner closely with leaders and employees across the organisation, while working alongside Finance on payroll-related activities.
Key Responsibilities
HR
- Provide practical HR advice and support to leaders and employees
- Manage employee relations and performance matters
- Support recruitment, onboarding, contracts and the broader employee lifecycle
- Provide guidance on policies, procedures and employment conditions
- Support workforce planning, compliance and learning initiatives
- Contribute to employee engagement, wellbeing and workplace culture
- Build trusted relationships across the organisation and provide a visible HR presence
- Work with external advisors where additional support is required on complex matters

Key Responsibilities
HR

Payroll
- Manage the end-to-end fortnightly payroll for a predominantly hourly and shift-based workforce
- Process payroll accurately in line with relevant EBAs, awards and employment conditions
- Maintain strong knowledge of superannuation and salary packaging
- Liaise with external salary packaging providers and respond to employee queries
- Work closely with Finance on payroll-related matters
- Support the ongoing optimisation of the CIM payroll platform
- Identify opportunities to streamline manual processes and improve payroll efficiency
- Ensure employee rates, conditions and payroll data are accurately maintained
The organisation is currently investing in improving its payroll processes and system functionality, providing the successful candidate with the opportunity to help embed more efficient and automated ways of working.
About You
We're looking for someone who brings a strong combination of hands-on HR and payroll experience , ideally gained within aged care, healthcare, home care, disability or another highly regulated environment.
- Experience working across both HR and payroll
- Strong understanding of EBAs, awards and industrial relations
- Experience managing payroll for an hourly or shift-based workforce
- Strong knowledge of superannuation and salary packaging
- Experience using payroll systems, ideally with exposure to CIM
- Confidence providing practical HR advice across employee relations and performance matters
- An interest in improving systems, processes and ways of working
- Strong communication and relationship-building skills
- The ability to work autonomously and take ownership
- A stable employment history and demonstrated commitment to previous roles
Most importantly, you'll be a practical, people-focused professional who enjoys being hands-on, solving problems and making a positive contribution to workplace culture.
What's on Offer?
- Permanent, full-time opportunity
- $95,000 – $100,000 base + superannuation
- Based in Sandringham
- Predominantly onsite, with the flexibility to work from home one day per week
