Are you passionate about chess and education? Chess for Schools is seeking talented and enthusiastic Chess Coaches to join our team in Melbourne.

This casual position offers the opportunity to share your love of chess with students and help them develop important thinking, problem-solving and strategic skills.

Classes are held in local schools, mainly during lunchtime and after school , with some occasional mid-morning sessions.

Applicants should generally be available on at least two weekdays per week, particularly during the following times:

- Lunchtime classes: approximately 1:00 pm–2:00 pm

- After-school classes: approximately 3:30 pm–4:30 pm

- Some occasional mid-morning classes may also be available

Coaches typically start with 2–3 classes per week, with the opportunity to take on additional classes depending on your availability, location and school demand.

What you'll be doing

- Deliver engaging and interactive chess lessons to students of different ages and skill levels

- Introduce the fundamentals of chess while fostering a love of the game

- Use structured lesson material and adapt activities to suit different student needs

- Supervise chess games, activities and friendly competitions

- Work professionally with school staff and follow school procedures

- Provide encouragement and individual support to help students improve their chess skills

What we're looking for

- Passion for chess and a strong understanding of the game's rules, strategies and techniques

- Previous experience in teaching, coaching, tutoring or mentoring is highly regarded

- Experience working with children is preferred

- A friendly, confident and outgoing personality, with the ability to engage groups of children and create an energetic, positive learning environment

- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to engage and encourage students

- Reliability,



professionalism and valuable organizational skills

- A willingness to continue developing your chess knowledge and coaching skills

- Availability on at least two weekdays for lunchtime and/or after-school classes

- Ability and willingness to travel to local schools

- Applicants must be 18 years of age or older
