McArthur is seeking an experienced Finance Coordinator to support a high-profile Commonwealth organisation within its Finance function.
This is a specialist budgeting position suited to an experienced APS6/EL1-level finance professional with a strong understanding of the Australian Government budget process. The role will provide high-level budgeting and financial management advice, with a particular focus on external budgets, capital budgeting, government reporting and stakeholder support.
The role
Reporting to a senior Finance Manager, you will work across the Commonwealth budget cycle and provide accurate, timely and practical financial advice to internal stakeholders.
Key responsibilities will include:
- Providing advice and support on New Policy Proposal (NPP) costings , including detailed costing justifications
- Leading and supporting external budget and capital budget processes
- Maintaining external budget information within the Central Budget Management System (CBMS)
- Preparing and contributing to Portfolio Budget Statements (PBS) and Portfolio Additional Estimates Statements (PAES)
- Supporting internal capital budgeting and capital management planning
- Coordinating responses to Estimates-related requirements
- Providing technical advice on the Australian Government budget and resource management framework
- Preparing or contributing to Ministerial submissions, Senate Estimates material and other senior-level financial advice
- Working closely with internal stakeholders to provide clear and commercially sound financial guidance
- Supporting continuous improvement of budgeting tools, processes and procedures
- Sharing knowledge and supporting capability development across the broader Finance team
About you
To be successful, you will ideally bring:
- Relevant tertiary qualifications in accounting, commerce or business , with CA/CPA study or completion highly regarded, or equivalent relevant experience
- Demonstrated experience in Commonwealth Government budgeting and financial management
- Strong knowledge of the Australian Government financial and budget framework
- Experience developing or reviewing NPP costings, budget submissions and forward estimates
- Previous experience using CBMS highly regarded
- Experience contributing to PBS, PAES, Estimates or other Commonwealth budget publications
- Strong financial analysis, judgement and problem-solving capability
- Demonstrated ability to provide clear financial advice to senior stakeholders
- Robust stakeholder management and business partnering skills
- Advanced Microsoft Office capability
- Ability to work effectively across geographically dispersed teams
Additional information
- 38 hours per week
- Proposed commencement: 1 November 2026
- Contract through to 31 August 2027
- Potential extension of up to six months
- Flexible working arrangements may be available at the manager's discretion
