Operations Manager - Building Maintenance Units
Operations Manager - Building Maintenance Units
Do you have a Trade Background?
Are you ready to Step Up into Management?
About the Company
Our client is an established national facilities services provider, operating since 1999 with 120+ staff across Brisbane, Sydney and Melbourne. They service, repair, install and certify Building Maintenance Units (BMUs) and height access systems on some of the most prominent high-rise buildings in and around the CBD.
Their Brisbane BMU division is growing, and they're looking for an Operations Manager to take ownership of day-to-day operations.
Is This Your Next Step?
Are you a qualified tradesperson (motor mechanic, diesel fitter, fitter, electrician or similar) who's ready to move into management? You don't need management experience for this role.
This business believes it's far easier to teach someone organisation and leadership than to teach a trade from scratch. What matters is that you understand how machines work, you can diagnose a problem, and you want to build a career beyond the tools. You'll still spend real time on site, working with the technicians and the equipment.
What You'll Be Doing
- Overseeing day-to-day BMU operations, including service, maintenance, repair and certification works
- Supervising and supporting a team of BMU technicians on site
- Coordinating labour, materials, subcontractors and equipment
- Planning and scheduling jobs, tracking progress and closing jobs out
- Being the main point of contact for clients on access, attendance,
progress and outcomes
- Making sure works meet Australian Standards, regulations and company safety procedures
- Preparing and managing SWMS, permits, inductions and site access requirements
- Working with senior management on operational performance, budgets and job delivery
What You'll Bring
Essential:
- A trade qualification with strong mechanical aptitude: motor mechanic, diesel mechanic, fitter, electrician or similar
- A practical, hands-on approach and willingness to be on site regularly
- Good communication skills and confidence dealing with clients and leading a team
- Strong organisational skills and the ability to juggle multiple jobs
- Sound understanding of protected work practices
- Basic computer skills (job management systems and Microsoft Office)
- Current Australian driver's licence
Highly regarded (not essential):
- Experience in cranes, lifts, elevators, hoists, height access or mechanical services
- Experience as a leading hand, supervisor, senior technician or team leader
If you have the trade background but haven't managed people before, we still want to hear from you.
Full support and training will be provided.
What's On Offer
- Competitive salary based on experience
- Work vehicle, mobile phone and laptop
- A clear path from the tools into operations leadership
- The chance to own and shape a growing BMU division
- A stable national business with more than 25 years' history
- Varied work on iconic high-rise buildings across Brisbane
