Head of Data & Platforms | Mining | Residential SE Asia

Peak Partners is partnering with a major mining operator to appoint a Head of Platforms & Data within its growing digital function.

The business has a substantial digital roadmap spanning mining, processing, smelting and corporate services. This role will lead the platform and data capability that enables delivery teams to build, deploy and support digital products consistently and efficiently.
You will be accountable for the platforms as an ongoing business capability, including team leadership, service ownership, reliability, support, adoption and continuous improvement.

This is a residential role based in SE Asia, requiring relocation to the operation’s township. The roster is 5:2, Monday to Friday. FIFO is not available.

THE ROLE

- Build and lead the platform and data team, establishing clear responsibilities, priorities and operating practices
- Own the enterprise data platform and shared engineering services throughout their lifecycle
- Establish reliable services with defined support processes, service expectations and training
- Provide secure self service capabilities that enable delivery teams and trained business users to access data and create solutions
- Build and maintain reusable components, drawing on existing enterprise platforms and cloud services before introducing custom development
- Improve platform performance, reduce complexity and lower the cost of digital delivery
- Partner with the Enterprise Architect on integration standards, platform guidelines and the target technology landscape
- Establish clear data standards and interfaces, working with business data owners and stewards to maintain quality and reliability
- Manage cloud and platform vendor relationships,



collaborating with the transformation office on contracts and commercial arrangements
- The workplace includes AWS, selected Azure services and Snowflake, with enterprise and operational integrations involving SAP and PI Historian.

WHAT WE ARE LOOKING FOR

You will have a demonstrated track record of owning and leading a platform or data engineering function, with accountability extending beyond individual projects or advisory engagements.
Key requirements include:

- At least 10 years of experience in data and platform engineering, including leadership of specialist teams and cloud platforms at scale
- Proven experience building and running shared platforms and data products used by multiple delivery teams or business functions
- Direct accountability for platform roadmaps, service reliability, support, adoption and ongoing improvement
- Experience establishing reusable services and self service tools that enable other teams to deliver independently
- Evidence of developing team capability and embedding sustainable operating practices
- Examples of measurable improvements in delivery speed, platform adoption, reliability or cost
- A relevant degree in computer science, software engineering, data engineering, information systems, engineering or a related discipline
- Mining, energy, manufacturing or other asset intensive experience is valuable. The core requirement is proven leadership of a platform and data capability. Technical consulting or data project delivery experience alone will not meet the scope of this appointment.
