Residential Care Officer – Supported Independent Living (Full-Time)

Location: [Unanderra / Illawarra] NSW, with rostered work across our SIL and SDA homes in the Illawarra, Sutherland and Shoalhaven regions
Employment type: Full-time, ongoing (38 hours per week, rotating roster)

Ave Maria is a registered NDIS provider delivering Supported Independent Living (SIL), Specialist Disability Accommodation (SDA), Short Term Accommodation (STA) and community access services across the Sutherland, Illawarra, Nowra and Shoalhaven regions. Our team supports people with disability to live safely, independently and with dignity in their own homes.
The role
We are looking for an experienced Residential Care Officer to provide care, supervision and support for people with disability living in our group homes and supported accommodation. You will help plan, deliver and review each resident's support program, and promote their independence, wellbeing and participation in the community.
Key responsibilities
- Provide care and supervision for residents with disability in group home and supported accommodation settings
- Assess residents' needs with them, their families and the support team, and help develop, implement and review individual support, education and training programs
- Support residents to build daily living skills, including personal care, meal preparation, budgeting, household tasks and community participation
- Implement Positive Behaviour Support Plans and respond to behaviours of concern in line with NDIS requirements
- Administer and record medication according to procedures and medication charts
- Monitor and record each resident's progress, report changes in health or wellbeing, and contribute to case reviews
- Liaise with families, guardians, support coordinators, allied health professionals and other services
- Keep accurate case notes, incident reports and shift handovers, including reportable incidents under the NDIS Practice Standards
- Maintain a safe, clean and homelike environment and follow WHS and infection control procedures
- Support and guide less experienced support workers on shift
Skills and experience required
- Diploma of Community Services, or an equivalent qualification
- At least 2 years' experience in residential care, SIL or group home settings supporting people with disability
- Working knowledge of the NDIS Practice Standards, the NDIS Code of Conduct and person-centred practice
- Experience with behaviour support plans, medication administration and incident reporting
- Strong written communication skills for case notes and progress reports
- Ability to work a rotating roster, including weekends, public holidays and sleepover shifts
Essential checks
- NDIS Worker Screening Check (or willingness to obtain one)
- NSW Working with Children Check
- Current First Aid and CPR certificates
- Full NSW driver's licence and a reliable, insured vehicle
- National Police Check
- Australian work rights
