Ascent Structural & Architectural Steel are currently seeking an experienced Pressure Welder to join their team in a full time role in High Wycombe.
As a Structural Steel Pressure Welder, you will perform high-quality welding of structural steel components in a factory environment, following approved Welding Procedure Specifications (WPS) and adhering to strict welding controls as required under Construction Category CC3 and ISO 3834 systems.
Tasks would include and not limited to include the assembly and fabrication of structural steel for commercial developments, ranging in size and complexity with stringent quality details and short time frames.
Key Responsibilities, Duties & Skills:
- Perform welding of structural steel to qualified WPS's with full compliance to AS/NZS 1554.1 and ISO 9606. Assemble and layout materials to weld and repair pipes and boilers to ISO9001 standards ensuring alignment of valves, gaskets and joints
- Undertake fabrication and welding tasks in compliance with the issued ITP's, WPS, WATR & MDR quality documents
- Prepare and weld components in accordance with CC3-level requirements and project-specific ITPs.
- Accurately interpret fabrication drawings, weld symbols, and specifications.
- Conduct and document pre-weld setup, fit-up checks, and in-process visual inspections.
- Maintain weld traceability by marking and recording welds as per QA requirements.
- Follow all internal ISO 3834-compliant procedures related to consumables, equipment calibration, and WPS control.
- Ensure consumables are stored and handled correctly.
- Cooperate with weld inspectors and QA staff for NDT readiness and visual acceptance criteria.
- Participate in ongoing training and requalification testing when required.
- Maintain housekeeping and adhere to all WHS policies and risk controls in the workshop.
- Undertake tasks in compliance with the company policies and practises and safety regulations
- Must be available for shift work and overtime if required.
Key Competencies:
- Certificate III in Engineering - Fabrication Trade (Welding or Boilermaking) or equivalent
- At least two years relevant welding experience
- 'C' Class Drivers Licencse (preferred)
- Operate a Gantry or Overhead Crane Qualification (preferred)
- Valid welding qualifications to AS/NZS 1554.1 and/or ISO 9606-1.
- Competency in FCAW, GMAW, and MMAW processes with heavy structural steel.
- Ability to work from detailed fabrication drawings and understand weld maps and procedures.
- Robust understanding of weld defect types, visual inspection, and weld repair processes.
- Commitment to following welding quality and traceability procedures.
- Ability to read and interpret shop drawings and weld procedures
- Self-starter, reliable and have a positive attitude
An hourly rate of $38 - $45 per hour will be offered to the successful candidate.
