- Join Australia’s largest synagogue in a newly created role, shaping the future of philanthropy and partnerships across a deeply engaged and generous community.
- Build and grow fundraising across Major Donors, Appeals, Gifts in Wills, Grants and Corporate Partnerships, bringing fresh ideas and a more strategic approach to supporter engagement.
- Full time | Permanent | Woollahra, Sydney with hybrid work

Impact of the organisation

Emanuel Synagogue is Australia’s largest synagogue and one of the country’s leading progressive Jewish communities, providing a welcoming and inclusive spiritual and community home in the heart of Woollahra.

More than a place of worship, Emanuel brings people together through education, culture, social justice, interfaith engagement and community programs, providing connection and support across all stages of life. Through the generosity of its community and supporters, Emanuel is able to strengthen these programs, care for those in need and invest in a vibrant and connected Jewish community for generations to come.

With a rich history and progressive outlook, Emanuel continues to evolve to meet the needs of its community while remaining deeply connected to Jewish tradition and guided by its values of integrity, leadership, inclusiveness, respect and growth.

Impact of the role

This newly created role is an exciting opportunity to help shape the next chapter of fundraising at Emanuel Synagogue, building on a deeply engaged and generous community while developing a more strategic and proactive approach to fundraising.

Working closely with the Executive Director, Emanuel Synagogue Foundation Board, clergy and wider leadership team, the Philanthropy and Partnerships Manager will take ownership of Emanuel’s broader fundraising activity. With an established base of loyal supporters and a strong culture of giving, there is significant chance to deepen donor engagement, build relationships across the wider membership and identify new opportunities for support.

The role will lead Emanuel’s regular appeals and help further develop its emerging Gifts in Wills program, while supporting future capital projects, Foundation initiatives and other fundraising priorities.

You will also identify grant and corporate partnership opportunities, particularly in support of Emanuel’s cultural programs and events.

With solid foundations already in place, this role will suit a proactive, relationship-led and forward-thinking fundraiser who is excited by the opportunity to build and shape something. You’ll bring fresh ideas and a contemporary approach to fundraising, with the confidence to identify new opportunities, strengthen supporter engagement and help evolve Emanuel’s philanthropy program for the future.

Responsibilities

- Support the development and delivery of fundraising and partnership strategies across appeals, philanthropy, legacy giving and other key initiatives.
- Build and strengthen relationships with existing donors, while identifying and cultivating new prospective supporters.
- Research and develop new corporate partnership opportunities, particularly in support of Emanuel’s cultural programs and events.
- Identify suitable grant opportunities and prepare compelling applications, funding proposals, reports and other donor materials.
- Support Emanuel Synagogue Foundation initiatives, events and Committee activity, working closely with the Foundation Board.
- Work alongside the Executive Director, President and clergy to support donor engagement and broader fundraising activity.
- Coordinate donor and partner communications, meetings and events, while maintaining accurate CRM records and fundraising data.

Skills and Experience

- Demonstrated fundraising experience, ideally across philanthropy, major gifts, partnerships or donor engagement; relevant relationship management experience from a commercial environment will also be considered.
- A strong understanding of fundraising principles, donor cultivation, stewardship and relationship management.
- Excellent relationship-building and communication skills,

with the confidence to engage effectively with donors, partners, senior stakeholders and the broader community.
- Strong written communication skills, with experience developing compelling proposals, grant applications, reports and other fundraising materials.
- A proactive and forward-thinking approach, with the initiative to identify opportunities, introduce new ideas and help build and improve fundraising activity.
- Highly organised with strong attention to detail and the ability to manage multiple priorities, events and stakeholder relationships.
- Comfortable working with CRM systems, fundraising data and digital tools to manage relationships, track activity and inform decision-making.
- A collaborative and adaptable approach, with the ability to work effectively across a close-knit team, Board, clergy and wider community.
