Project Architect / Project Lead

Rise Architecture | Essendon, Melbourne

Rise Architecture is looking for an experienced Project Architect or Project Lead to join our small, design-led studio in Essendon.

We design homes around the way people live, with a focus on thoughtful design and carefully resolved details. Our work brings architecture and interiors together to create considered, liveable spaces, with a particular focus on high-end residential projects.

We’re looking for someone who enjoys taking ownership of a project, from the first sketch through to construction and completion. You’ll bring strong design judgement, sound technical knowledge and the confidence to manage projects independently, while working closely with our director and senior staff.

The role

This is an prospect to lead projects across all stages of delivery. You’ll develop designs, resolve details, oversee documentation and guide projects through planning and construction.

Just as important is the way you work with people. You’ll be a key point of contact for clients, consultants, authorities and builders, building positive relationships and keeping everyone informed as projects progress.

We’re looking for someone who can see the bigger picture while staying across the detail: someone who anticipates challenges, takes initiative and brings practical, thoughtful solutions to complex problems.

What you’ll be doing

- Leading high-end residential projects from concept design through planning, documentation and construction.





- Developing and refining architectural designs that respond thoughtfully to the brief, site and budget.

- Preparing and overseeing accurate, coordinated construction documentation, with particular attention to materials, junctions and detailing.

- Managing day-to-day client communication, presenting ideas clearly and guiding clients through decisions.

- Coordinating consultants and liaising with relevant authorities to navigate planning and approval processes.

- Managing project priorities, programmes and deliverables, identifying issues early and keeping work moving.

- Liaising with builders, attending site meetings and resolving construction queries while maintaining the design intent.

- Working collaboratively with our director and studio team, contributing ideas and sharing knowledge.

What you’ll bring

- Five or more years’ experience in architectural practice, with a strong focus on high-end residential projects.

- Demonstrated experience independently managing projects across design, documentation and construction.

- A design-led approach, supported by a portfolio showing thoughtful architecture and carefully resolved details.

- Proficiency in AutoCAD and strong construction documentation skills.





- Sound knowledge of residential construction, materials and detailing, together with relevant building codes, Australian Standards and local planning processes.

- Strong organisational skills and the ability to manage competing priorities with minimal supervision.

- A personable, professional approach, with the communication skills to maintain positive relationships with clients, consultants, authorities and builders.

- Initiative, sound judgement and a practical, can-do attitude, including the ability to navigate complex situations and take responsibility for finding a way forward.

- A relevant qualification in architecture or building design.
