Our Adelaide Airport laboratory provides diagnostic pathology services to general practitioners, specialists, hospitals and patients across South Australia.
About the role
We are seeking a Medical Laboratory Technician to join our team at our Adelaide Airport laboratory. You will work under the direction of Medical Laboratory Scientists and senior laboratory staff. You will prepare and process patient specimens, perform routine testing across diagnostic disciplines, and help keep our laboratory running safely, accurately and efficiently.
Key tasks and responsibilities
- Collect, receive, label and prepare blood, tissue and other biological specimens for laboratory testing
- Perform routine laboratory tests and procedures under the direction of Medical Laboratory Scientists and other senior laboratory staff
- Operate laboratory equipment used in haematology, biochemistry, microbiology and other diagnostic testing
- Prepare reagents, solutions, stains, cultures and other materials required for laboratory procedures
- Process specimens using techniques such as centrifugation, separation, staining, microscopy and automated analysis
- Record test results and laboratory data accurately using laboratory information systems
- Conduct quality control checks and identify results or equipment readings that need further review
- Clean, calibrate and perform routine maintenance of laboratory instruments and equipment
- Maintain appropriate storage, handling and disposal of specimens, reagents and laboratory materials
- Follow infection control, work health and safety, biosecurity and laboratory quality procedures
- Maintain laboratory records, stock levels and supplies, and assist with ordering laboratory consumables
- Assist Medical Laboratory Scientists with more complex testing, investigations and laboratory procedures as required
Qualifications and experience
To be successful in this role you will have either:
- a Diploma or higher qualification and at least 12 months of relevant experience; or
- at least 3 years of relevant experience.
Desirable skills
- Experience in an accredited diagnostic pathology laboratory
- Experience using a laboratory information system and automated analysers
- Strong attention to detail and accuracy in specimen handling and data entry
- Sound knowledge of infection control, WHS and laboratory quality procedures
- Positive communication skills and the ability to work well within a team
