Steelstruct Engineering is a agile, privately owned Western Australian engineering and manufacturing company delivering specialist steel fabrication, piping, machining, hardfacing and maintenance solutions to the mining, mineral processing, infrastructure and defence sectors.

Operating from our facilities in Henderson, Western Australia, and Rayong, Thailand, we manufacture and refurbish a diverse range of structural, mechanical and piping packages for major equipment manufacturers and industrial customers.

We work across a broad range of materials, welding processes and fabrication standards, often involving demanding specifications and inspection requirements.

About the Role

We are seeking an experienced Welding Coordinator to take technical responsibility for welding coordination, inspection and compliance across our Henderson fabrication operations.

Reporting directly to the Operations Manager, this is a key technical position responsible for ensuring welding activities are properly planned, qualified, executed and inspected in accordance with applicable standards, approved procedures and customer requirements.

Acting as the company's Responsible Welding Coordinator (RWC), you will provide technical guidance to workshop supervisors, project engineers and welding personnel, maintain welding procedures and qualifications, and oversee welding-related quality requirements throughout the fabrication process. You will also play a key role in maintaining compliance with AS/NZS ISO 3834,



including preparation for and participation in internal and external certification audits.

The role combines technical coordination with hands-on workshop inspection and offers the opportunity to influence welding practices, resolve complex fabrication issues and drive improvements in welding quality and productivity across a diverse range of projects.

Key Responsibilities

- Coordinate and supervise welding activities, ensuring suitable WPSs and appropriately qualified welders are assigned to each job.

- Develop and maintain welding procedures, welder qualifications and associated records.

- Review drawings, specifications and ITPs, resolving welding-related technical issues.

- Conduct pre-weld, in-process and final welding inspections.

- Coordinate NDT, weld traceability, inspection records and quality release.

- Oversee welding consumables, equipment compliance and subcontractor documentation.

- Manage welding non-conformances, support AS/NZS ISO 3834 compliance and participate in internal and external certification audits.

Experience Required

To be successful in this role, you will require:

- Minimum 3 years’ experience in welding inspection, welding coordination or a similar role within a fabrication workshop.

- A recognised welding supervision qualification such as AS 1796 Certificate 10, AS 2214, IWS, IWT,



IWE or an equivalent qualification acceptable under the applicable welding standards, together with demonstrated competency to undertake Responsible Welding Coordinator duties.

- A recognised welding inspection qualification, such as CSWIP 3.1, International Welding Inspector (IWI) or equivalent.

- Working knowledge of AS/NZS 1554, AS/NZS 5131 and AS/NZS ISO 3834, with familiarity in AS 3992, AS 1210 and relevant piping fabrication standards.

- Practical knowledge of FCAW, GMAW, GTAW and SAW processes, weld symbols, WPS requirements and welder qualifications.

- Ability to interpret fabrication drawings, specifications, ITPs and welding documentation.

- Experience with structural steel, platework and piping fabrication in mining or heavy industry.

- Strong communication skills when dealing with workshop personnel, engineers, clients and inspection providers.

- Sound Microsoft Word and Excel skills.

- A practical, organised approach, with the confidence to identify issues early and work with the team to resolve them.
