Wilderness School is a non-denominational day and boarding girl’s school educating students from Early Learning Centre through to Year 12. Since 1884, Wilderness School has prepared girls to be adventurous, courageous, responsible, and respectful learners and leaders. About the Role
Wilderness School is seeking multiple caring, enthusiastic and dedicated Boarding House Supervisors to join our welcoming Boarding House community.
Working closely with the Head and Assistant Head of Boarding, these positions play an important role in creating a safe, supportive and nurturing home away from home for our boarding students in Years 7–12.
The successful applicants will provide pastoral care, supervision and practical support to students, helping them develop independence, confidence and positive relationships throughout their boarding experience.
We have multiple positions available, offering a range of contracted hours and roster arrangements to suit different availabilities. These positions operate primarily during school term time and include afternoon, overnight and weekend shifts.
Available Rosters
We offer a range of roster patterns with varying contracted hours, all of which include a weekend shift. Current options may include:
- Monday and Wednesday, 3:00pm–9:00am, plus either Saturday or Sunday, 10:00am–5:00pm.
- Thursday, 3:00pm–6:30am, plus a choice of Friday, 3:00pm–9:00am; Saturday, 5:00pm–10:00am; or Sunday, 5:00pm–9:00am.
- Tuesday, 3:00pm–6:30am, plus a choice of Friday, 3:00pm–9:00am; or Saturday, 5:00pm–10:00am.
Additional roster arrangements with similar shift patterns may also be available.
In this role, you will:
- Provide a safe, welcoming and supportive environment that promotes the wellbeing of boarding students.
- Build positive and trusting relationships with students,
families and colleagues.
- Support daily Boarding House routines, including meals, study periods, recreational activities and student supervision.
- Respond to students' pastoral care needs, providing guidance, encouragement and appropriate support.
- Assist and run student activities, events and Boarding House programs.
- Manage student leave arrangements and maintain accurate records.
- Support student health, safety and wellbeing, including responding to emergencies and administering first aid when required.
- Work collaboratively with the Boarding House team to maintain a positive, inclusive and respectful community.
About You
We are looking for individuals who are approachable, compassionate and genuinely passionate about supporting the wellbeing and development of young people.
The successful applicants will demonstrate:
- Experience working with young people, ideally in a boarding, education, residential care or similar setting.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
- A warm, empathetic and professional approach to student care.
- Strong organisational skills, sound judgement and resilience.
- The ability to work independently and collaboratively within a team.
- A commitment to confidentiality, professional boundaries and student safety.
- Flexibility to work rostered afternoon, overnight and weekend shifts.
- A current unrestricted driver's licence.
Relevant First Aid certification, a Working with Children Check and Responding to Risks of Harm,
Abuse and Neglect – Education and Care training (or willingness to obtain these) are essential.
Previous boarding experience, Mental Health First Aid or ABSA/BSA Duty of Care certification will be highly regarded.
