Join a Bank That's Growing, Evolving and Raising the Bar!

Step into a legal leadership role at a purpose‑led, high‑performing organisation where your work shapes the future of retail banking. Be part of a respected legal team known for strong collaboration, genuine connection and a friendly, engaged culture.

As a BCorp Certified bank (score 121.6) we care for our members and look for win/win outcomes for people, purpose and planet.

Here, collaboration beats hierarchy, people genuinely care about each other, and your expertise will be valued, visible and influential across the bank.

This is your opportunity to join a high‑impact team, contribute to exciting strategic initiatives, and play a meaningful role in projects that directly shape the member experience and the future of the Bank.

About the Role

Our team is looking for Retail Banking Lawyers who genuinely understand the Australian retail banking landscape. People with deep experience in consumer lending, simple deposit and mortgage products, ADI obligations, NCC and NCCP, and the regulatory frameworks that govern modern retail banking.

What You Will Do

In these senior, enterprise‑wide roles, you will provide expert legal partnership across the Bank, ensuring clarity, governance strength and commercial confidence. Your work will span:

- Providing commercial, solutions‑oriented legal advice across banking, consumer credit, corporate and financial services matters.
- Applying deep understanding of core regulatory regimes including the NCC, NCCP, APRA prudential standards, retail ADI obligations and the Customer Owned Banking Code of Practice, particularly across deposit, savings and mortgage products.

- Ensuring compliance with the Corporations Act, Banking Act, ASIC and APRA requirements.
- Monitoring emerging regulatory change and translating developments into practical, actionable business guidance.
- Drafting, negotiating and reviewing contracts, finance agreements, SLAs and product documentation across the Bank's operations.
- Supporting major strategic initiatives including mergers, partnerships, integrations and new product development.
- Identifying and managing legal risk across business units, working closely with Risk and Compliance for cohesive governance outcomes.
- Supporting Company Secretary functions through board papers, resolutions and guidance on governance and director duties.
- Managing disputes and litigation, including oversight of external counsel.
- Partnering with executives, operations leaders and the Board to deliver explicit, timely and commercial legal advice that supports strategic decision‑making and innovation across the Bank.

About You

You bring the expertise and judgement needed to operate confidently in a dynamic mutual banking environment:

- Admitted solicitor in New South Wales with a current practising certificate.
- 5-15+ years PQE in banking, finance or corporate law, with deep retail banking experience.
- Strong understanding of ASIC and APRA frameworks.

- Demonstrated experience with the NCC, NCCP, retail ADI regulations, prudential standards and the Customer Owned Banking Code of Practice.
- Comfortable managing ambiguity, prioritising effectively and operating confidently through change.
- Experience in mutual or customer‑owned banking is highly regarded.
- Broader exposure across consumer credit, privacy, technology/IP procurement, employment law, financial product disclosures and corporate governance is a strong advantage.
- Excellent communication and stakeholder engagement skills, including managing disputes and litigation.
