The Team

Mersey Community Hospital (MCH) is a valued part of Tasmania's public health system, delivering high-quality healthcare to the North West community. The Medical Ward provides comprehensive inpatient care across general medicine, geriatric care and palliative care services, caring for patients with diverse and often complex needs. The ward works within a collaborative multidisciplinary model, partnering closely with medical, allied health and support teams to deliver safe, person-centred care. The team is committed to clinical excellence, continuous improvement, workforce development and ensuring the best possible outcomes for patients and their families. The Medical Ward plays an important role in supporting patient flow across the broader health service while maintaining a strong focus on quality, safety and compassionate care.

The Role

As Nurse Unit Manager, you will provide clinical and operational leadership to the Medical Ward at Mersey Community Hospital, overseeing services across general medicine, geriatric care and palliative care. You will lead a skilled and dedicated workforce, ensuring the delivery of safe, high-quality, evidence-based care within a multidisciplinary environment. This role is responsible for the effective management of human, financial and physical resources, monitoring ward performance, driving quality improvement initiatives and fostering a culture of excellence, learning and innovation. You will work collaboratively with the Nursing Director - Medicine, Clinical Lead Medicine and key stakeholders to support service delivery, patient outcomes and workforce capability.

You will need

- Demonstrated leadership experience with the ability to inspire, develop and support nursing teams while promoting a positive and accountable workplace culture.

- Extensive clinical knowledge and experience relevant to acute medical, geriatric and/or palliative care services, together with an understanding of contemporary clinical governance and quality improvement principles.

- Strong decision-making, resource management and relationship-building skills, with a proven ability to work collaboratively across multidisciplinary teams and stakeholder groups.

Details of appointment

Permanent full time, day worker position, working 76 hours per fortnight, commencing as soon as possible.

*notwithstanding hours to be negotiated with the successful applicant.

Applicants should note that, for a period of twelve months from the date of publication, this selection process may be used to fill subsequent or similar full time, part time, and casual vacancies.

Salary

$134,109 to $140,384 per annum. Our Employer 12% superannuation contribution is on top of this amount.

- Salary range is in accordance with Nurses and Midwives (Tasmania State Service) Agreement 2023.

In addition, the following allowances calculated on the salaried incremental point may be available:

- Post Graduate Allowance of up to 10% based on qualification type

Eligibility

- Registered with the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia as a Registered Nurse
