About the Role
n
n
We are seeking experienced Theatre Registered Nurses for opportunities at Royal Darwin Hospital and Katherine Hospital. Whether your expertise is in Scrub/Scout, PACU, Recovery, or Anaesthetics, you will provide specialist perioperative care and work alongside surgical and anaesthetic teams to support safe patient outcomes.

Key responsibilities:
n
n
n
n
n
Deliver high-quality, patient-centred care within your perioperative specialty
n
n
n
Complete patient assessments, safety checks, and clinical handovers
n
n
n
Scrub/Scout:
Prepare theatres, instruments, and equipment; maintain aseptic technique; complete surgical counts; and support the surgical team throughout procedures
n
n
n
PACU/Recovery:
Monitor patients following anaesthesia, assess airway and haemodynamic stability, manage pain and nausea, and identify postoperative complications
n
n
n
Anaesthetics:
Prepare and check anaesthetic equipment, assist with airway management, and support the anaesthetist during induction, maintenance, and emergence
n
n
n
Recognise clinical deterioration and respond promptly to emergencies within your scope of practice
n
n
n
Administer prescribed medications and IV therapies in line with facility protocols
n
n
n
Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to support safe transfers and continuity of care
n
n
n
Maintain accurate clinical documentation and follow infection prevention and patient safety procedures
n
n
n

What you'll need
n

Current AHPRA Registration (Registered Nurse Division 1)
n
n
n
Minimum 2 years post-graduate nursing experience in your relevant perioperative specialty
n
n
n
Recent clinical experience in Scrub/Scout, PACU, Recovery, and/or Anaesthetics
n
n
n
Scrub/Scout applicants:
Confidence with instrumentation, surgical counts, aseptic technique, and circulating duties
n
n
n
PACU/Recovery applicants:
Competence in post-anaesthetic assessment, airway management, and recognition of postoperative complications
n
n
n
Anaesthetics applicants:
Experience assisting with anaesthetic procedures, equipment checks, and airway support
n
n
n
ALS certification highly regarded, particularly for PACU, Recovery, and Anaesthetics roles
n
n
n
Postgraduate qualifications in Perioperative, Anaesthetic, or Recovery nursing highly regarded
n
n
n
Strong communication skills and the ability to work confidently within a busy theatre team
n
n
n
