Job Description
About the Role
The Friends' School is seeking an enthusiastic and dedicated Japanese Teacher to join our Senior School for a fixed-term, full-time position from January to December ****.
The successful candidate will inspire and engage students in the learning of Japanese across Years 7–12, fostering a passion for language, culture and intercultural understanding.
You will contribute to the development and delivery of engaging, inclusive and contemporary language programs aligned with the Australian Curriculum, Tasmanian Certificate of Education (TCE) and International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme (IBDP).
Working collaboratively within a dedicated Languages team, you will create a supportive learning environment that encourages curiosity, academic growth and student wellbeing, while contributing to the School's broader pastoral care program.
Key Focus Areas
Deliver engaging and effective Japanese language instruction to students across Years 7–12.
Develop, implement and evaluate contemporary Japanese language programs aligned with relevant curriculum and syllabus requirements.
Inspire students to develop a passion for language learning, cultural awareness and intercultural understanding.
Differentiate teaching practices to support diverse learning needs and promote student engagement and achievement.
Design and implement authentic assessment strategies, monitor student progress and provide meaningful feedback and reporting.
Collaborate with colleagues in curriculum planning, moderation,



professional learning and the continuous improvement of Languages programs.
Contribute to the pastoral care system, including undertaking a tutor role to support student wellbeing and development.
Build positive and respectful relationships with students, colleagues and families.
Actively participate in co-curricular activities, meetings, school events and professional learning.
Uphold child safeguarding responsibilities and contribute to a safe, inclusive and supportive learning workplace.
Essential Qualifications & Requirements
Appropriate teaching qualifications and current registration, or eligibility for registration, with the Teachers Registration Board of Tasmania.
Demonstrated experience or the capacity to teach Japanese across Years 7–12.
Strong knowledge of contemporary language teaching methodologies, curriculum development and effective assessment practices.
An understanding of the Australian Curriculum, TCE and International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme, or the ability to develop this knowledge.
Demonstrated ability to create engaging, inclusive and differentiated learning experiences that cater to diverse student needs.
Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build positive relationships with students, colleagues and families.
Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively as part of a team and contribute to a positive professional learning environment.
A commitment to student wellbeing, pastoral care, child safeguarding and maintaining a child-safe environment.
A commitment to ongoing qualified learning, reflective teaching practice and continuous improvement.
A willingness to contribute to the wider school community, including co‐curricular activities and pastoral care.
