JJ's High Performance Pty Ltd – Melbourne VIC
Help build the content behind one of Australia's fastest-growing football performance businesses.
bring AFL-standard training to local footballers.
More than 4,000 footballers have trained with us. We currently coach 1,000+ players and work with 20+ football clubs across Australia.
Content has been a big part of how we got here. We've built an audience of 110,000+ on Instagram, 60,000+ on TikTok and 25,000+ on Facebook, and we've recently launched our YouTube channel.
Right now, content is juggled between me and two other team members who all have other jobs to do. That's worked to get us here, but it won't work for where we're going. I'm still too involved in getting every video made.
We need one person, full-time, who understands footy, understands content, and can own it.
That's this role.
WHAT THE JOB IS
Early on, most of your time will be spent editing. We'll supply the footage and your job will be turning it into content people actually want to watch.
That includes:
Long‐form YouTube videos
Reels, TikToks and YouTube Shorts
Teasers and clips from longer videos
Stories and behind‐the‐scenes content
Paid ad creative, including different hooks and versions for testing
Website video
You'll also handle the packaging around the content: thumbnails, titles, on‐screen text, captions, B‐roll and different cuts for different platforms.
Over time, you'll take more ownership of publishing too: uploading, scheduling, managing the content calendar and keeping our footage and files organised.
And you'll pay attention to what actually works. Watch time, retention, click‐through rate, which hooks perform, which ads generate leads.
I don't need you building reports for the sake of reports. I want you to understand what's working, make more of it, and stop doing what isn't.
WHO YOU'LL WORK WITH
You'll report directly to me.
I'll continue to set the overall content direction, the core ideas we want to communicate and the football messaging behind them.
You'll also work closely with our marketing lead, who manages our paid advertising,
email and landing pages. They'll brief you on the creative we need for campaigns, but you won't be responsible for ad targeting, budgets or overall advertising strategy.
If you're based around Melbourne or Geelong, there'll also be opportunities to film sessions, athletes and other content in person. Filming experience is a bonus, but it's not a requirement for the role.
HOW THE ROLE GROWS
First 90 days:
Learn our style, our audience and what good JJ's content looks like. I'll review your work and give you plenty of feedback.
From around month 4:
Once your work consistently needs very few changes, you'll start taking over more of the packaging, publishing and day‐to‐day production.
Within 12 months:
I want you running content production from start to finish, with me focused on strategy, ideas and the bigger creative decisions rather than reviewing every edit.
As JJ's grows, this can develop into our
Head of Content
role, with the opportunity to build a team underneath you.
WHAT SUCCESS LOOKS LIKE
Content gets produced consistently without me having to chase it.
You can take raw footage and work out what is worth publishing, rather than needing me to tell you where every good clip is.
You understand our style well enough that your work needs fewer and fewer changes.
Our YouTube, short‐form and paid creative keep improving because you're paying attention to what people actually watch and respond to.
And I can focus on creating and coaching rather than managing every piece of content through production.
WHAT WE'RE LOOKING FOR
You're a very good editor.
You understand pacing, storytelling, audio, music and graphics, and you're comfortable editing both short and long‐form content.
You know footy.
This is important.
You don't need to have played at an elite level, but you need to understand Australian football well enough to know what matters and what our audience will care about.
You can find the clip.
Give you a 20‐minute conversation and you can find the 45‐seconds worth posting, and know how to cut it so people keep watching.
You take feedback once.
If I tell you something on Monday, I don't want to be giving you the same feedback again on Friday.
You're organised.
You can manage footage, projects, deadlines and publishing without things constantly getting lost or forgotten.
You're into tools.
Editing software, automation, AI and anything else that can remove boring work or make the production process better.
You care about why content works.
You don't need to be an analyst, but you're curious about retention, hooks, thumbnails, watch time and what makes people keep watching.
EXPERIENCE
I'm more interested in your work than the number of years you've been doing it.
You might already be working in sport or media. You might be earlier in your career with a great portfolio and a strong feel for content.
Experience creating sports, fitness or football content is a big plus.
Filming, motion graphics and design skills are also valuable, but none are mandatory if you're an excellent editor.
I'm not attached to any particular editing software. Use the tools that help you produce outstanding work efficiently.
HOW WE WORK
This is a full‐time role with flexible hours, mostly from home, anywhere in Australia.
Melbourne or Geelong is ideal because there'll be opportunities to work and film together in person, but the right person matters more than location.
Early on, expect plenty of feedback while you learn our style.
Over time, that should drop significantly.
I don't want to be your permanent quality control. I want you to know our content well enough that I don't need to be.
Applicants must live in Australia and have the right to work in Australia. We can't offer visa sponsorship.
