About the Position:
Senior Lawyer - Multiple ongoing opportunities
The Senior Lawyer opportunity offers the chance to undertake complex, high-profile work in a dynamic and evolving regulatory environment.
We are seeking lawyers with prior experience in areas of law including construction law, administrative law, commercial law, contract law and corporate governance, with knowledge of statutory interpretation of the Building Act and Domestic Building Contracts Act.
This is an exciting opportunity to make a meaningful impact within a newly established regulator during a period of significant industry reform.
Senior Lawyer, Regulatory Assessment & Review - Fixed term 2 years
We are seeking an experienced and motivated Senior Lawyer to join our Legal Services Unit on a 2-year fixed-term basis.
In this role, you will support the Regulatory Assessment and Review team and contribute to broader legal advice and litigation functions, with a key focus on advising on and reviewing rectification orders under the Building Act ****.
You will prepare court and tribunal documentation, liaise with stakeholders, coordinate proceedings, and provide high-quality legal support to strengthen BPC's regulatory capabilities.
What we are looking for:
We are looking for lawyers who can demonstrate:
* Bachelor of Laws or Juris Doctor, admission as an Australian Legal Practitioner, and a current practising certificate (or eligibility to obtain one).
* Post-admission experience in a regulatory, enforcement, government, or public sector legal environment.
* Prior experience in building and construction law, administrative law, commercial law, contract law and corporate governance highly desirable.
* Sound knowledge of, or ability to quickly develop an understanding of,
building and plumbing regulatory legislation, including the Building Act ****, Domestic Building Contracts Act **** and the Building Plumbing Administration and Enforcement Act ****.
* Strong legal advisory skills, including experience in litigation support, and preparation of court and tribunal documents.
* Excellent stakeholder engagement, communication, analytical, and organisational skills.
* Demonstrated integrity, initiative, sound judgement, and commitment to continuous improvement.

About the BPC
Established in ****, the BPC is Victoria's new independent regulator for the building and plumbing industries.
The BPC brings together the Victorian Building Authority (VBA), Domestic Building Dispute Resolution Victoria (DBDRV), and the domestic building insurance function of the Victorian Managed Insurance Authority (VMIA) into one organisation.
Key functions related to building and plumbing regulation have come together under one roof, including registration, inspection and compliance, practitioner discipline, dispute resolution, and domestic building insurance.
