The role combines financial reporting, cost review, taxation compliance and accounting systems responsibilities with the day-to-day management of financial transactions across our business and related entities.
The Accountant will work closely with management, senior accountants and our external advisers to maintain accurate financial information and meet our reporting obligations.
Main responsibilities : Assist management in developing budgetary and accounting policies for our business and construction projects.
Prepare financial statements and management reports using reconciled accounting records, working with senior accountants and external advisers on month-end and year-end reporting.
Examine business income, expenditure and operating costs, ensure costs are accurately allocated to the relevant construction jobs, and report findings to management.
Maintain accurate general ledger records, including the classification of transactions across assets, liabilities, loans, income, expenses and construction jobs.
Complete monthly bank and credit card reconciliations, investigate discrepancies and ensure the records supporting financial reports are accurate.
Prepare monthly credit card summaries and allocate shared corporate expenses, including fuel and mobile phone costs, and loans across the relevant entities.
Manage supplier invoices in MYOB, including matching invoices against purchase orders and delivery dockets, resolving discrepancies and reconciling supplier statements.
Schedule and process daily,



weekly and monthly supplier payments by credit card and electronic funds transfer in accordance with company procedures.
Ensure GST is correctly recorded and assist senior accountants with BAS and PAYG preparation and lodgement.
Prepare company taxation returns and supporting information in consultation with our external tax advisers.
Assist with payroll processing and provide the related accounting information to senior accountants.
Review financial reports for accuracy and compliance with statutory requirements, and investigate accounting discrepancies when required.
Provide management with financial and taxation advice concerning business plans, structures and operations, working with external advisers where appropriate.
Maintain our accounting systems, including MYOB and supplier records, and advise management on the selection and use of computer-based accounting systems.
Maintain internal accounting controls over financial records, invoice verification and payment processing.
Liaise with banks and other financial institutions regarding funds management arrangements, and respond to accounting enquiries from banks, clients and tax authorities.
Assess cash flow and financial risks associated with proposed capital investment projects when required.
Maintain organised supporting financial records, including petty cash records, filing and archiving.
Qualifications and experience : A degree in accounting or a relevant discipline.
Relevant experience in financial reporting, taxation compliance, general ledger accounting and reconciliations.
Sound knowledge of Australian accounting requirements, GST, BAS and PAYG.
Experience using MYOB.
Strong analytical skills and attention to detail.
Ability to communicate financial information clearly and manage reporting deadlines.
Experience in construction accounting and multi-entity operations would be an advantage.
The successful applicant will be offered a salary of $80,000 - $85,000 per annum plus superannuation, depending on skills and experience.
