ACEnergy is a Melbourne-based renewable energy developer specialising in utility-scale solar and Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS). As we continue to grow our national footprint - we work closely with landowners, investors, and local communities to deliver renewable energy projects that are locally supported, economically sound, and environmentally responsible.
The Senior Accountant is a hands-on role responsible for the integrity of financial reporting across ACEnergy. Reporting to the Director of the Group and Financial Controller, this role manages the day-to-day financial accounting function, working with overseas service providers, and drives timely, accurate reporting across multiple related entities both locally and overseas. The role will manage the accounting, reporting, tax and statutory compliance obligations across ACEnergy, project SPVs and recent local and overseas entities as the business grows. This role is key in strengthening internal controls, ensuring compliance with Accounting Standards and statutory obligations, and providing insightful financial analysis to support strategic decision-making by senior management and the Board.
This role is ideally suited to a CA or CPA qualified professional or near completion, from an audit or tax background in chartered practice who is seeking a first move into industry, and who wants broad, hands-on exposure to a growing renewable energy business.
Key Responsibilities
Financial Statements:
Prepare and review accurate, timely financial statements (income statements, balance sheets, cash flow statements and notes) for the Group and associated companies both locally and overseas in accordance with accounting standards and organisational policy.
Month-end and Year-end Close:
Lead the month-end and year-end close process across all entities, including accruals, prepayments, and journal review, driving the team to meet reporting deadlines.
General Ledger Oversight:
Oversee the integrity of general ledger accounts across entities, ensuring balance sheet reconciliations are prepared, reviewed and cleared on a timely basis.
Statutory & Tax Compliance:
Ensure accurate and timely preparation and lodgement of statutory returns including BAS/IAS, FBT, payroll tax, and income tax obligations, other returns to ASIC etc, liaising with external tax advisors and the ATO as required.
Business team Support:
Act as finance liaison for fortnightly payroll review related activities, LSL reviews, credit card funding and integrity of bank uploads.
Audit Management:




Act as the key liaison for external auditors, prepare audit information requirements and schedules for the Group and associated companies, and resolve audit queries.
Financial Analysis:
Conduct variance and trend analysis and prepare management commentary to support the Financial Controller in Board and management reporting.
Cash Flow & Treasury Support:
Monitor cash flow positions across entities and support treasury management, including intercompany funding arrangements.
Systems & Controls
: Maintain and strengthen internal controls and financial systems across the Group, identifying and implementing process and system improvements.
Continuous Improvement
: Drive process improvement initiatives across financial operations, reporting and analysis, embedding best practice across the Group and associated companies.
Development Cost Accounting:
Track and report project development costs (such as land options, planning and environmental studies, grid connection applications and design costs).
Project SPV Management:
Set up and maintain the accounting for new project SPVs, including chart of accounts, bank accounts, cost allocation, project-level reporting and preparation of data room information.
Budgets & Cash Flow:
Driving projects and SPV budgets and cash flow forecasts, supporting funding decisions and intercompany funding arrangements.
Related Entity Governance:
Oversee financial governance of associated companies, including monitoring compliance, statutory obligations and reporting deadlines for each entity.
Stakeholder Liaison:
Act as a key contact for company directors, external advisors and stakeholders on financial and accounting matters
Any other duties
as reasonably directed by the Director or Financial Controller from time to time.
Qualifications & Experience
Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related discipline.
CA or CPA qualification (or final stages of completion) is required.
Minimum of 3 years experience in financial accounting, with demonstrated experience leading or supervising a team. First time mover from Auditing environment will be considered too.




Working knowledge and understanding in setting up entities including trusts.
Experience managing financial reporting and consolidation across multiple related entities or group structures is highly regarded.
Strong working knowledge of Australian Accounting Standards (AASB), the Corporations Act and Australian tax and statutory reporting requirements (BAS, IAS, FBT, payroll tax).
Advanced proficiency in accounting software (e.g., Xero, MYOB or similar ERP systems) and Microsoft Excel.
Proven ability to lead, mentor and develop junior finance staff.
Strong stakeholder management skills, with the ability to liaise confidently with directors, auditors and external advisors.
Excellent analytical, organisational and time management skills, with the ability to manage competing deadlines across multiple entities.
High level of accuracy, integrity and attention to detail in financial reporting.
Prior experience working within a group structure involving associated companies, or related-party entities and managing offshore outsourcing.
Experience with advanced Excel-based consolidation models.
Exposure to industry-specific regulatory or reporting requirements relevant to the Group's sector.
Experience supporting Board or governance-level reporting.
Strong technical accounting and tax knowledge, with the ability to apply it practically in a commercial setting.
Ownership and accountability for the end-to-end accounting and compliance process.
Initiative and a builder's mindset, comfortable creating structure in a growing business.
Sound judgement in resolving complex accounting, tax and intercompany matters.
Commercial awareness and the ability to translate financial information into practical insights for project and business decisions.
Clear written and verbal communication with directors, project teams, auditors and external advisors.
Strong organisational skills and the ability to prioritise across multiple entities, jurisdictions and deadlines.
Integrity and discretion when handling confidential commercial and transaction information.
Adaptability and resilience in a fast-paced, evolving environment.
A collaborative, solutions-focused approach to working across finance and the broader business.
