About the role
FSG is looking for an Associate Geotechnical Engineer to join our Brisbane team. We are looking for an engineer who thrives on solving complex problems and wants to remain hands-on with high-level engineering.
Key responsibilities
Technical Leadership: Advanced soil/structure interaction, modelling of soft soils and ground improvement, piled foundations, retaining structures, earthworks and slopes for temporary and permanent works.
Numerical Analysis: Utilize and oversee advanced geotechnical software (e.g., Plaxis, L-pile, Slope/W) to deliver practical engineering solutions.




Mentorship & Quality: Drive technical excellence across the team by mentoring intermediate and junior engineers, ensuring rigorous peer reviews, and maintaining our reputation for quality.
Client Advisory: Act as a trusted technical advisor to tier-1 contractors, structural consultancies, and asset owners on high-stakes infrastructure, mining, and commercial projects.
Project Direction: Oversee project delivery from inception to closeout, managing technical risk, timelines, and budgets efficiently.
About you
Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering, with post-graduate qualifications an advantage.
CPEng and RPEQ registrations are required, or eligible for registration if international.
A proven track record of solving complex geotechnical problems and familiarity with standards and methods applicable to geotechnical design.
Excellent communication and problem-solving skills including the ability to clearly articulate geotechnical advice in both reports and drawings.
Team oriented and ability to interact successfully with people in a range of industry positions and roles.
Ability to manage and mentor junior staff.
Ability to manage projects and interact with clients.
A full driver's licence.
