About Us
The Gambling, Liquor & Tobacco business unit supports the regulation of gambling, liquor and tobacco in Victoria, to minimise the harms these products can cause and contribute positively to the Victorian economy. It is responsible for:
delivering and further developing the Victorian Government's strategic response to gambling, liquor, and tobacco issues
developing and implementing the government's policy on major gambling licensing processes
delivering a research and evaluation program to inform responses to gambling harm in Victoria.
What you will do
As a policy officer, you will help develop policies on gambling, liquor and tobacco. You can apply for three positions across our gambling policy, liquor and tobacco policy and liquor projects teams.
You will:
research policy issues and provide
clear
advice on options for change
help develop policy proposals and track
relevant
changes in Australia and overseas
prepare
concise
briefings, reports and other written advice within tight deadlines
seek views from community groups, industry and government to inform
practical
policy changes
plan project tasks, manage
competing
priorities and work with others to meet deadlines.
About you
You do not need a mandatory qualification. You can strengthen your application with relevant tertiary qualifications or experience.
You should also have:
policy development skills
, with the ability to meet tight deadlines and seek input from others
sound judgement
and an understanding of how political issues affect policy decisions
knowledge of
gambling, liquor or tobacco regulation
, or the ability to learn
research and communication skills
to solve problems, explain ideas clearly and work well with people from different backgrounds.
