Cradle Coast Authority (CCA) is Australia's only combined regional development and natural resource management organisation. Jointly owned by the nine councils of North West and Western Tasmania, CCA exists to make the region a better place to live, work and invest.
CCA's work spans advocacy, policy development, stakeholder coordination and project delivery, from a Shared Coastal Pathway to environmental programs supporting agriculture, biodiversity and threatened species. Its close-knit team of over 20 people is based in Burnie, Strahan and on King Island.
CCA is proud to be purpose-driven, integrity-focused and evidence-based, with a goal: to improve the prosperity of the region. It works toward its vision of a strong, resilient and sustainable region built through partnership with council, community, business and industry.
Shape Policy. Build Relationships. Champion the Region.
CCA is seeking an Advocacy and Engagement Manager, based in Burnie, TAS.
Reporting directly to the Chief Executive Officer, you will be a trusted senior manager and key support to the CEO, in a role recently reshaped to put advocacy and communications at its heart. You will manage CCA's advocacy positions and external communications, support the CEO in representing the region's interests to State and Federal Governments, and continue lifting CCA's external profile.
Working across natural resource management, regional development and council coordination, you will play a key role in securing State Government support for regional priorities, with periodic travel within the region and to Hobart. You will also lead the organisation's communications function, which delivers much of CCA's day-day communication outputs.
More specifically, your responsibilities include but are not limited to:
Lead the development and delivery of CCA's annual regional advocacy agenda and its Advocacy, Communications and Engagement Strategy

Drive regional advocacy campaigns on behalf of CCA and its Member Councils
Coordinate government relations and parliamentary engagement, including ministerial briefings and meetings with elected representatives
Build strong relationships across government, industry, business, media and community
Support the development of cohesive, prioritised advocacy positions that bring together natural resource management and regional economic development perspectives
Prepare and oversee submissions, briefing papers, position statements and speeches
Provide strategic advice to the CEO, Board and Member Councils
Monitor policy, legislative, budget and funding developments to identify emerging opportunities
Deliver media statements, stakeholder correspondence and content across CCA's website and social media channels
Bring Your Influence, Judgement, and Government Know-How
To qualify, you will need a tertiary qualification in communications, journalism, public relations, public policy, government relations or a related field, or equivalent experience, along with at least five years' experience in advocacy, stakeholder engagement, communications, government relations or a similar role. You will bring a proven ability to influence decision makers in a complex political environment, supported by excellent written and verbal communication skills and strong policy analysis capability. A current driver's licence is also required.
Additionally, the following skills and experience will be highly valued:
Experience within State or Federal Government, or engaging closely with government through consulting, corporate or government-owned business roles
Experience advising executives and boards on communications, policy and position statements
Demonstrated success developing advocacy strategies, campaigns and submissions

An understanding of political and parliamentary processes
Experience drafting media releases and stakeholder correspondence
Knowledge of the Cradle Coast region
Familiarity with communications software, digital platforms and design principles
As the ideal candidate, you will be a confident, independent and persistent professional who thrives on working with people. You take the initiative, make your case with optimism and persuasion, and bring others along with you. With sound judgement and a pragmatic approach, you look at issues on their merits and always keep the region's interests at heart.
You will be someone who builds trust quickly, finds common ground and brings fresh, practical ideas to the table. A collaborative leader who plans ahead and adapts with ease, you will deliver a strong volume of high-quality work and grow into a trusted senior voice for CCA. Whether you're an experienced senior practitioner or on an upward career trajectory, CCA would love to hear from you.
Meaningful Work. Genuine Flexibility.
CCA offers an attractive salary package PLUS Super, along with a host of employment benefits, including:
Relocation Assistance of up to $5,000, negotiable for the right candidate
Novated Leasing Options available
A Social Club to Connect with Colleagues
The Chance to Shape the Future of North West and Western Tasmania
Ready to Champion the Cradle Coast?
Imagine stepping out onto your deck, coffee in hand, with the ocean stretching out in front of you. In Burnie, life by the coast isn't a holiday you save up for. It's simply how you live.
This vibrant city on Tasmania's north-west coast puts beaches, bushland and a thriving creative scene right on your doorstep. On a summer evening, head down to West Beach and watch little penguins waddle ashore at dusk. On the weekend, spot platypus in Fern Glade Reserve, just minutes from town, chase the cascades at Guide Falls, or drive 90 minutes to the World Heritage wilderness of Cradle Mountain. Then round it off with local artisans at the Makers' Workshop and award-winning single malt at Hellyers Road Distillery.
