Wilderness School is a leading independent, non-denominational girls' school educating students from Early Learning Centre to Year 12. Since ****, the School has empowered girls to become adventurous, courageous, responsible and respectful learners and leaders, guided by the enduring legacy of its founders, the Misses Brown.
An opportunity now exists for an experienced and highly organised People and Culture professional to join Wilderness School on a 12-month parental leave contract, commencing as soon as possible, during Term 4, ****.
Reporting directly to the Principal and working closely with the Business Manager and Senior Leadership Team, this role is responsible for the delivery of high-quality operational HR services across the employee lifecycle.
This is an excellent opportunity for a hands‐on People and Culture practitioner who enjoys partnering with leaders, managing complex administration and compliance requirements, and ensuring people processes are delivered efficiently, professionally and with care.
Key responsibilities
This broad and varied role encompasses all aspects of operational human resources, including:
– Lead and continually improve contemporary People & Culture practices across the School
Provide trusted advice to the Principal, Senior Leadership Team and people leaders
Oversee end-to-end recruitment,
onboarding and employee separation processes
Manage employee relations, performance, conduct and grievance matters
Provide advice regarding industrial relations, Awards, legislation and the School's Enterprise Agreement
Oversee HR policies, procedures, systems and compliance requirements
Manage Workplace Health & Safety and Return to Work responsibilities
Support workforce planning, organisational change and broader strategic People & Culture initiatives
The successful candidate will become a trusted member of the School community, working collaboratively with leaders across the organisation to ensure people processes run smoothly and effectively.
As this is a fixed‐term contract, the focus will be on maintaining and enhancing existing systems, processes and relationships rather than leading major organisational change initiatives.
About You
You are a proactive and detail‐oriented HR professional who takes pride in delivering exceptional operational support and building positive working relationships.
You will bring:
Demonstrated experience in Human Resources, People & Culture or Employee Relations
Strong administrative capability and exceptional attention to detail
Experience managing recruitment and onboarding processes
Sound knowledge of employment legislation and HR compliance requirements
Excellent organisational skills and the ability to manage competing priorities
Strong written and verbal communication skills
A collaborative approach and the ability to work effectively with senior stakeholders
High levels of professionalism, discretion and confidentiality
Experience within a school or education environment will be highly regarded. Exposure to Enterprise Agreements, industrial relations matters or workforce planning within a complex organisation will also be viewed favourably.
