Clean Slate Clinic
Gold Coast
Clean Slate Clinic isn't your average health service. We're a telehealth social enterprise smashing the barriers - geography, cost, stigma - that stop people from accessing alcohol and other drug recovery care. With a purpose-driven team and clinician-led programs, we're on a mission to help thousands achieve long-term recovery. This is healthcare built for dignity, access, and scale
Who we are looking for
We're looking for a senior, hands‐on People leader who has helped scale an organisation through a meaningful period of growth.
You'll be equally comfortable shaping people strategy with the executive team and getting into the details yourself, whether that means improving onboarding, resolving an employee issue, implementing an HR system or helping a manager navigate a difficult conversation.
You'll know how to introduce structure without unnecessary bureaucracy and will be energised by the opportunity to build Clean Slate's People function from the ground up.
Because Clean Slate operates with a highly autonomous, distributed team, you'll need to understand how to create strong culture, accountability and employee connection without relying on traditional management layers.
You have
8 to 10+ years of broad People, HR or People & Culture experience
Experience owning or significantly building a People function within a growing organisation
Robust knowledge of Australian employment law, Modern Awards and employee relations
Experience across performance, recruitment, onboarding, learning and organisational development
Experience supporting a distributed or remote workforce
A strong track record of designing practical People processes that improve performance without creating unnecessary bureaucracy
Experience implementing or significantly improving HR systems
Strong judgement and the confidence to advise senior leaders on complex People matters
The ability and appetite to remain highly hands‐on
Strongly Preferred:
Experience in a high-growth startup, scale‐up or similarly fast-changing organisation
Experience supporting organisations of roughly 100 to 500 employees
International People experience across more than one employment jurisdiction
Experience building learning, capability or internal academy programmes
Experience building recruitment and workforce‐planning capability
Experience with Employment Hero
Exposure to rapidly scaling venture‐backed organisations
You will
Own and progressively build Clean Slate's People function
Build scalable recruitment, onboarding and employee lifecycle processes
Lead the implementation and ongoing development of Employment Hero
Develop performance management systems that reinforce accountability, autonomy and high performance
Build learning and development programmes, including mandatory clinical training and the Clinical Academy
Partner with leaders on workforce planning, organisational design and future capability requirements
Provide practical advice across employee relations, performance and employment compliance
Ensure compliance with relevant Modern Awards and Australian employment requirements
Develop initiatives that strengthen culture and engagement across a distributed workforce
Support managers to become stronger people leaders
Improve People reporting, data and operational processes
Help Clean Slate prepare its People infrastructure for continued domestic and international growth
What success looks like
In your first month, you'll build a clear understanding of Clean Slate's workforce, culture, clinical operating model and immediate People priorities. You'll review existing employment practices, recruitment and onboarding processes, training requirements, performance systems and HR technology, while building strong relationships with the executive team and wider organisation.
Over the following months, you'll begin implementing the infrastructure required for the next stage of growth. Recruitment and onboarding will become more repeatable, Employment Hero will be embedded, mandatory training and the Clinical Academy will progress, and managers will have stronger frameworks for performance and employee development.
Over time, you'll establish a scalable People function that allows Clean Slate to continue growing without losing its autonomy, pace or mission‐led culture.
The team
You will be reporting to Katharine Crook, COO.
The benefits
Fully remote working with access to co-working spaces
High ownership and autonomy
Exposure to founders and senior leadership
The chance to work on a genuinely meaningful problem with real‐world impact
We believe that diversity is critical to our success. We will not discriminate on the basis of race, religion, national origin, gender identity or expression, sexual orientation, age, or marital, veteran, or disability status.
