National Business Development Manager – Civil & Construction Labour Hire
MD Group supplies skilled trades and labour to civil, infrastructure, resources and commercial construction projects across Australia. We have offices in Victoria, Western Australia and Queensland, are ISO ****, ***** and ***** certified, and recorded zero lost time injuries across FY26.
We work with Tier 1, 2 and 3 principal contractors, and our crews have worked on energy, water and civil infrastructure projects from Victoria to the Pilbara. Our core trades are formwork carpenters, steel fixers, concreters, ticketed labourers and plant operators, along with fit-out and finishing carpenters for commercial construction. And we're only getting started. Electrical trades on infrastructure projects are almost untouched for us, and the same is true of licensed plumbing and drainage, renewables and battery storage, ports and marine, and remote modular camp builds. The clients we already supply buy those trades on the same projects. The pipeline is there, and this role exists to go and win it.
Civil is where we're scaling hardest, and this role is how we get there.
The role
This is a newly created position, built to capitalise on serious growth in the business. You'll own new business development nationally. The main focus is winning and growing civil and infrastructure accounts, while also building our commercial construction and fit‐out work and opening up new trades, sectors and locations.
You'll be based in Queensland and report to our National General Manager. This is a road‐and‐client role, not a desk job. You'll plan your own week, spend your time in front of decision‐makers, and travel interstate regularly.
What you'll do
Win current civil, infrastructure and commercial construction clients across Australia, from Tier 1 contractors down to growing Tier 2 and 3 builders
Grow existing accounts into new trades,



including electrical, plumbing and specialist civil, so each client buys more from us
Build a pipeline from scratch: research projects and tenders, find out who holds the labour budget, and get in the room
Meet clients on site and in their offices, and walk projects to understand the actual crew they need
Work with our account managers and recruitment team to turn wins into crews mobilised on time
Manage your own territory, diary and travel against clear revenue and margin targets
Fly interstate as required, and travel to our Melbourne head office monthly for leadership meetings
Keep our CRM current. If it's not in the system, it didn't happen.
What you'll bring
A proven track record in business development or sales in labour hire, recruitment, or a role aligned to civil construction (plant hire, equipment, materials, contracting or similar)
Existing relationships in civil and infrastructure. We want to know who you can call this week.
An understanding of how civil projects are delivered: packages, principal contractors, and how and when labour gets bought
Confidence talking to project managers, construction managers and procurement leads
The discipline to manage yourself. You'll set your own schedule and be measured on results.
Willingness to travel interstate regularly, including overnight stays
A current driver's licence. A White Card is a bonus, or you'll get one quickly.
What's on offer
$120,000 – $150,000 base + super, depending on experience
Uncapped commission on targets. Your earnings move with what you win.

Hybrid working: remote until our new Queensland office opens circa end of January, then a mix of office, home and the road
