Our client is a successful, privately owned industrial and manufacturing business turning over +$100 million annually located in the Footscray/Sunshine suburban corridor.The Group services predominantly international export markets, and operates in a dynamic environment influenced by commodity prices, supply availability, foreign exchange, global demand, freight costs and changing regulatory requirements.
The Prospect
The business is now seeking a Finance Manager who will report to the CFO to join the finance team and play a key role in the next phase of its growth. The Finance Manager will work closely with the management team and take responsibility for the financial accounting, management reporting and statutory reporting obligations of the group.This is a hands‐on, commercially focused role. A key focus will be developing stronger financial systems, reporting and commercial disciplines while maintaining the entrepreneurial culture and agility championed by the owners.
Key Responsibilities
Financial Reporting & Performance
Manage the monthly, quarterly and annual financial reporting process.
Deliver accurate, timely and commercially meaningful management accounts and business owner reporting.
Develop meaningful KPIs and dashboards covering revenue, gross margin, trading performance, inventory, working capital, cash flow and operational performance.
Commercial Finance & Trading
Partner closely with the owners and operations teams to understand and manage commodity trading performance.
Monitor commodity-price movements and their impact on purchasing, inventory valuations, sales pricing and profitability.
Working Capital, Cash & Treasury
Assist the CFO with group cash flow and working-capital management.
Establish appropriate cash-flow forecasting and liquidity reporting.
Develop appropriate controls around customer credit and payment terms.




Inventory & Operational Finance
Establish strong financial controls and reporting around inventory held across the Group.
Work closely with operations to understand stock losses, yield, processing costs and operational variances.
Governance, Risk & Compliance
Maintain a robust financial control environment appropriate for a privately owned industrial business.
Ensure compliance with relevant taxation, accounting, corporate and regulatory requirements.
Assist CFO to manage group taxation and external accounting relationships.
Ensure appropriate controls around purchasing, payments, payroll, customer receipts and inventory.
Tax
Oversee the Group's Australian taxation affairs, including GST, income tax, FBT and other relevant obligations.
Ensure appropriate treatment and documentation of commodity transactions and GST.
Identify opportunities to improve the Group's tax position within appropriate commercial and regulatory parameters.
Systems & Process Improvement
Review and enhance the Group's finance systems, processes and reporting infrastructure.
Ensure appropriate financial controls are embedded into business processes rather than relying solely on manual intervention.
Experience & attributes sought:
Undergraduate business/accounting degree and qualified CAANZ or CPA (or nearing completion of postgraduate studies).
Manufacturing, industrial processing or other heavy industry finance team experience
Strong financial reporting, management accounting and commercial analysis capability.
Demonstrated experience managing working capital and cash flow in an operational or trading environment.
Strong understanding of inventory accounting and controls.
Entrepreneurial and comfortable with ambiguity.
Hands‐on and pragmatic and comfortable working in an operational environment.
Strong systems and process improvement capability.
High level of commercial acumen and business judgement.
