We operate a small, farm-based and licenced abattoir with an attached boning and meat packing room (25 minutes from Ballarat). Offering contract slaughter, butchery or delivery options to various small and medium producers and butchers across the Ballarat region.
Demand continues to grow as farmers and consumers alike seek to maintain and re-establish local supply chains for their meat, and we are looking for the right person to help us meet this need in the long term.
We also operate a small farm, selling meat and horticultural products directly to a group of local and loyal customers. We take pride in offering an efficient, professional and reliable service in all aspects.
About the role
Join our small team with a focus on meat processing activities. Tasks may include assisting in:
Key responsibilities
Livestock handling and checks to ensure animal welfare standards are met
Processing of animals on the slaughter floor – stun and stick, skinning, evisceration, inspection, washing and handling
Boning, dicing, bandsaw and packing work as required
Routine and scheduled cleaning and maintenance works
Delivery of whole or partial carcasses and meat products in Ballarat and surrounds
Farming, horticulture, construction or other maintenance work as required based on your experience and interest in these additional tasks
About you
Reliable and hard-working with your own means of transport to and from work
Able to work safely and responsibly both by yourself and as part of a team
Physically fit and strong enough to meet the high demands of the job
Experience within the meat industry in a butchering, boning or slaughtering capacity (strongly desirable but not essential).
If not experienced within the meat industry, valuable general hand skills and willingness and firm commitment to learn. Experience from a farming, trade or other background which shows that you are capable and flexible would also be highly regarded
Take pride in your work with an understanding of food safety and customer service
Willing to be vaccinated for Q-Fever
Flexible working arrangements – willing to consider part-time, casual, full time or sub-contracting arrangements. Well suited to someone already working in similar industries and looking to supplement their income.
Well above award rates (we expect hard working, skilled and versatile people but pay reflects this) - this can be re-negotiated as your experience grows and depending on your responsibilities
