About the Opportunity
Join the Australian Electoral Commission's expanding Regulatory Division and contribute to protecting the integrity of Australia's electoral funding and political donation system.
As an
APS5 Compliance & Investigations Officer
, you will work across either the
Compliance or Investigations stream
, supporting regulatory activities associated with political financial disclosure, election funding and potential non-compliance.
This is an chance for analytical, detail-oriented professionals with backgrounds in compliance, investigations, audit, assurance, finance, regulatory work or similar fields to contribute to work of national significance.
The APS5 positions operate under general supervision as part of a collaborative team.
Your duties may include:
Gather, analyse and document information to support investigations into potential non-compliance and anti-avoidance schemes.
Review documents and financial information to identify gaps, issues, risks and potential indicators of non-compliance.
Apply data and intelligence tools to identify high-risk behaviours, entities and schemes.
Prepare clear and accurate briefs, reports and correspondence to support decision-making.
Review financial disclosure returns for accuracy, completeness and compliance with legislative requirements.
Assess election funding claims and undertake associated compliance reviews and enquiries.
Support the processing and payment of election funding in accordance with legislation and internal procedures.
Work collaboratively with internal stakeholders and external scheme participants.
The role encompasses two distinct work streams, with Investigation Officers focused on investigative analysis and Compliance Officers focused on financial disclosures and election funding.
Skills and experience we are looking for:
Experience supporting structured compliance, audit, assurance, quality review, investigations or similar work.
Strong analytical skills with the ability to interpret moderately complex to complex information and identify potential issues.
Ability to work methodically and accurately within regulatory or procedural requirements.
Strong written communication skills and the ability to prepare clear, well-reasoned advice.
Strong communication and collaboration skills, including engagement with internal and external stakeholders.
Ability to manage competing priorities and deliver high-quality work within tight timeframes.
Flexibility and adaptability in response to evolving legislative requirements, priorities and processes.
A positive, collaborative approach to working within a team.
For the
Investigations stream
,
a Certificate IV in Government Investigations (PSP*****), or willingness to undertake the qualification with AEC support, is highly desirable.
For the
Compliance stream
, qualifications or relevant experience in accounting, commerce, finance or a related field are highly desirable.
Essential Requirements:
Australian citizenship is required.
Ability to obtain and maintain a
Baseline security clearance
.
Ability to satisfy AEC pre-employment screening requirements, including police, identity and political neutrality checks.
